Not levers but a great day afield.

Post by jnyork »

Had a really great day today, fellers. Left camp about 6:30 AM and headed out into the the Red Desert country of Wyoming in persuit of a pronghorn for my Lovely Bride, she drew an area 64 tag for those of you who know Wyoming. Saw a few smaller ones but keep looking until about 10:30 when I glimpsed a buck and two does headed over the top of a little hill topped with large rocks. We rolled up on the back side of the hill and make the 200 yard climb to the top. Sure enough, there was the buck, I ranged him at 225 yards. He was facing us trying to figure out what we were. She took a good rest and popped him with the .257 Roberts and hit him good but had to finish him off with another shot, something she seldom has to do. The effects of the second shot precluded me from getting a nice photo to post here but sure made him quit kicking around!! Had him skinned and cooled out and back at camp about 1:00

What a pretty day, gin clear air , temps about 65, mild breeze about 10 knots or so, sky the dark blue you only see on clear days at high altitudes ( 8000 feet in this case) Visibility about 50 miles or so. We rested by the truck after our labors and enjoyed snacks and coffee while enjoying the view of the high desert and the glistening granite peaks of the Wind River range 25 miles away. Kinda hated to head back for camp.

Dont have any idea what I would do to have any better day than today. :D

Sometimes I wonder if it is worthwhile gnawing through the leather straps to get up in the morning..................
