POLITICS - Dear Civilians...

Post by Ysabel Kid »

I never served, but I'm doing my civilian part by passing this along! :D

Dear Civilians, we know that the current state of affairs in our great nation has many civilians up in arms and excited to join the military. For those of you who can't join, you can still lend a hand. Here are a few of the areas where we would like your assistance:

1. The next time you see any adults talking (or wearing a hat) during the playing of our National Anthem - kick their butt.

2. When you witness, firsthand, someone burning our American Flag in protest - kick their butt.

3. Regardless of the rank they held while they served, pay the highest amount of respect to all veterans. If you see anyone doing otherwise, quietly pull them aside and explain how these veterans fought for the very freedom they bask in every second. Enlighten them on the many sacrifices these veterans made to make this Nation great. Then hold them down while a disabled veteran kicks their butt.

4. (GUYS) If you were never in the military, DO NOT pretend that you were. Wearing battle dress uniforms (BDUs) or jungle fatigues, telling others that you used to be in "Special Forces." Collecting GI Joe memorabilia, might have been okay when you were seven years old, now it will only make you look stupid and get your butt kicked.

5. Next time you come across an Air Force member, do not ask them, "Do you fly a jet?" Not everyone in the Air Force is a pilot. Such ignorance deserves an butt-kicking (children are exempt).

6. If you witness someone calling the US Coast Guard 'non-military', inform them of their mistake - and kick their butt.

7. Next time Old Glory (the US flag) prances by during a parade, get on your darn feet and pay homage to her by placing your hand over your heart. Quietly thank the military member or veteran lucky enough to be carrying her - of course, failure to do either of those could earn you a severe butt-kicking.

8. Don't try to discuss politics with a military member or a veteran. We are Americans, and we all bleed the same, regardless of our party affiliation. Our Chain of Command is to include our Commander-In-Chief (CinC). The President (for those who didn't know) is our CinC regardless of political party. We have no inside track on what happens inside those big important buildings where all those representatives meet. All we know is that when those civilian representatives screw up the situation, they call upon the military to go straighten it out. If you keep asking us the same stupid questions repeatedly, you will get your butt kicked!

9. 'Your mama wears combat boots' never made sense to me – stop saying it! If she did, she would most likely be a vet and therefore could kick your butt!

10. Bin Laden and the Taliban are not Communists, so stop saying 'Let's go kill those Commies!' And stop asking us where he is! Crystal balls are not standard issue in the military. That reminds me - if you see anyone calling those darn psychic phone numbers, let me know, so I can go kick their butt!

11. 'Flyboy' (Air Force), 'Jarhead' (Marines), 'Grunt' (Army), ‘Squid' (Navy), 'Puddle Jumpers' (Coast Guard), etc., are terms of endearment we use describing each other. Unless you are a service member or vet, you have not earned the right to use them. Using them could get your butt kicked.

12. Last, but not least, whether or not you become a member of the military, support our troops and their families. Every Thanksgiving and religious holiday that you enjoy with family and friends, please remember that there are literally thousands of soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen far from home wishing they could be with their families. Thank God for our military and the sacrifices they make every day. Without them, our country would get it's butt kicked.

It's the veteran, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press.

It's the veteran, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.

It's the veteran, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate.

It's the military who salutes the flag,
who serves beneath the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who allows the protester to burn the flag."

One more:

13. If you ever see anyone either standing for or singing our National Anthem in Spanish - KICK THEIR BUTT.

I would like to reply. I served in
the Air Force for 21.5 years. Now
My son Michael 21, is in the Army stationed at Fort Carson. He was home
on leave this past May.I was proud
to attend our local Memorial day
ceremonies together in uniform. ( i
have a complete serviceable BDU uniform which i have worn in the 4th
of July Parade as a Member of the American Legion)

At the Ceremonies a few people came up to us to talk to us. But one gentleman in paticular came up to us
and said I`d like to thank you for
serving our country, and shook our
hands. He stood there a few seconds
and said..I don`t know what else to
say.I said a sincere thank you from
you is plenty Sir. I remember this
clearly being there proudly with my
boy.My son said when he was at the

Airport at Atlanta, on the way home,
several people expressed their gratitude. Thank a Vet, they do dserve it, and appreciate it.

Mike`s company will be deployed
to Afghanistan some time next year.

Cute, but promotes thuggish oppression of basic freedoms, which seems to make most of the statements largely oxmoronic.

I suppose that's the nature of comedy.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

I agree with almost everything you said. However, number 11 strikes me as un-American to tell another American he can't say something because you don't like it. My father was a Marine, and as a son of one I am here to tell you I have every right to call him a Jar Head. If he didn't like it then it would be up to him to object to it.
On another note, there is one more thing that bothers me, and this has nothing to do with you. It's more with America as a whole. I'm tired of the hero worship. Not everyone that wears a uniform is a hero. The wave of patriotism this country went through after 911 was heart warming. But now it seams we feel the need to pound chest with badges. I have seen military personnel retired without ever wearing a combat badge. I have seen younger folks wanting to join the fire department for the badge and pay, not the work. Same for police. Just this year, I have talked to a few new servicemen that balked at the topic of deploying in Iraq. "I'm not going" was one reply. So to some of those young folks I say, I'm not impressed with badges, and don't pound your chest to me with your accomplishments. If they are truly that important and or heroic, I'll notice and congratulate you. And if I don't, sorry, I should have.

I have seen that one before it is funny.

Gobblerforge is right the wave of patriotism has crested and past sad to say. But one thing I dont do as a recruiter is give young men and women the false idea that they wont go to combat and most of them know before they even talk to us that if they join the Marine Corps that they are going to spend their fair share of time in the sand box.

I know I am in good company here in saying the wave of patriotism I ride will never crest - only increase. I for one will always appreciate anyone who wears our country's uniforms and does so honorably. I will continue to pray for them every day - as they represent some of the only true heroes we have left in our society.

Jeremy - thank YOU for serving and keeping all of us free! :D

between my dad, my brother and i, we have been in four wars, served an estimated seven years in combat zones.

dad was WWII & korea, i was 'nam and my brother was desert storm

dad and i were in the U.S. Army and my brother was in the USCG.

we considered it to be our duty as americans to do what we did.

there are those who would, but for some legitimate reason, cannot serve...to them...it's ok.

to those who do not wish to serve...that's ok, too...but don't look down on those who do.

Thanks Jeremy! I apparently missed the part of drivers' ed that stated driving was not supposed to be a "crash 'em up derby". I'm lucky to be sucking air after the second one, and those injuries still bother me to this day. A big price for impatience as a young man....

No, that's a blessing. May not seem like it at the time, and sometimes for quite some time, but children are a blessing from God always!

One of my favorite and most profound memories - BEFORE I signed up - was the description of the Recruiter in StarshipTroopers.

At the Recruiting Office he wa a shot-up weck of a man, trying fervently to scare the brass off of the tyros... but when he left (was at a big party later) he was hale and hearty... if equipped with the most modern of prosthetics.

The order of the day was to recruit only the most dedicated, the most fully comprehending of Troopers. Men (and women) who understood that to be a Trooper meant COMBAT. It meant death. It meant Injury. It meant giving your all for the cause. And if the recruit didn't get that... if he/she washed out because of it, it was felt by the Recruiter to have been a personal failure.

It's really too bad that too man "recruiters" are more concerned with their numbers than the Quality of their recruits.

Good on ya Gunny.
