Seems a gunsmith by the name of Al Edge was having a little get together to bless his new shop or more correctly the new addition to his original shop !
Al is a maker of fine rifles in the Virginia style from 1740-1840 .
Now I'm not totally new to this as we have had original Pennsylvania rifles and Civil War muskets for many many years .
But to be honest I had NEVER fired a Kentucky type rifle or flintlock in my life !
That changed slightly today as I was given the oppurtunity to shoot a nice Virgina style rifle or two ! And of course they were all flintlock !
Incidently you can get a better idea of what I speak at ; www.aledge.com
We got there today about noon and they were having the blessing when we arrived !
After that was done a big lunch was ready and waiting for all who came ! There were maybe 30 folks total . Some were past and present customers while 3 or 4 others were also craftsman as well ! Another young man from close by who also builds rifles in the early Virginia style was there . Also a master engraver or two were there .
To be honest this was the most gunmaking talent I had ever been around at one time in my entire 47 year life !
And like a dummy I had my digi cam in the truck and failed to take pictures being more involved in shooting and talking ! Sometimes I just don't get my priorities straight
I can see a need in the somewhat near future for a 1740-1840 Virginia style rifle
And by the way . Not a whole lot was said about this but Al also makes some fine Hawken style rifles !
