Post by jnyork »

Local hardware store, (Lander, WY) is having their sidewalk sale on snowblowers today. Time to head for Arizona for the winter.

Yes, winter is fast approaching. It has cooled to the mid 80s around here. A chill is in the air.

Unless my wife hit's the lottery I'm gonna be stuck in this cesspool another winter. I'd take Lander, WY over here any month of the year.

snow blowers are on display here, too. and we are probably well under a month away from lasting snow fall.
here is how it looks up the road from my house as i drove out this morning. that white stuff on the hills just below the clouds is marching our way and will be here in less than a month to stay all winter:

and from the same spot looking down across the ocean inlet, here is fire island, and faintly visible below the horizontal line of clouds is the Alaskan range, frozen and white at least for the last 100,000 years or so:

in the next couple of years i am going to start spending part of each winter somewhere where there is short-sleeve-shooting-weather!

We were down to 38F this morning up in our neck of the woods. Wood is cut, split (for next year), seasoned from last year is stacked and ready to go. BUT... we're all wearing sweaters until we get a good rain. Spark arresters or no, it's still too dry out there to safely light a fire. Brrr...

It's coming though...

We've had a light frost here in Central Maine - although some folks nearby have had a hard freeze already.
It's beginning to get nippy on the motorbike in the mornings on the way to work. Still, with a little luck we'll
have at least another 6 weeks before there is ice on the roads.

I've got to get to the shooting club to check the zero on the deer rifles. Last winter had record snowfall in
these parts, and the deer herd took a beating, so very few doe permits this fall. The moose, on the other hand,
fared pretty well.

But it's coming, that's for sure. I've got a deck to stain, pellets to buy, and the stove to clean. Wood is ready for
the garage, and I've got to get a spare belt for the snowblower. I'm hoping for a winter that is a bit easier than
last year!

Maybe I need to see a head shrinker, but I'm looking forward to the cold and snow.......

don thomas, if that's your ride then I like your taste in fine engineered machinery. 8) I liked the winter in Wyoming.

Yup, that's Ol' Red. Don't know if its the way the weight is distributed, the phase of the moon or what, but that buggy has gotten me home when I know our 4Runner wouldn't have made it...
