OT Sorta - One of my favorite .22LR rifle all time

Post by rjohns94 »

Took this one to the August Levergun Texas Safari. Several of us, well most of us, tried it out at the range and found it pretty fun to shoot. Since that time, it has undergone some changes. Added to it since August is the tactical Sling, the aim point sight and the silencer. This rascal is a shooter. This am, using subsonic rounds and the silencer, we strategically removed from the tomatoe grabbing gene pool, a rabbit, a chipmunk and a vole, with three shots. I could have used the .20 caliber pellet rifle but what fun is that when you have a silenced .22 available??? :D Besides, I made less noise for the neighbors. This is a GSG-5, in rifle config. Same weight and feel as my old MP-5. 22 round clips feed great. I wish I could use a semi in pa to hunt with during small game season! Anyway here it is:

There's one of these in a local shop that the guys at the counter were raving about. Apparently it's all the rage in 22's these days. The one I saw I had assumed had a fake silencer up front. Do they make a real silencer for it now? Is there still a $200 transfer tax and hassle on that item?

Went to work one morning & by chance pulled in to parking space next to the female head of a sister department, she had tried to hire me away but my dept. would not give me up.
I had a Dodge Charger Carol Shelby Limited Edition.
She looked at my car & said " Oh, you have a little red arrest me car "
You sir, have a little black arrest me gun.
I bet that raises some eyebrows!

that's nice Mike. They were talking about them quite a bit on Rimfire central some time back. No one had one at that time. I take it they are accurate, that's always a plus. Have you tried it with a scope yet? What are the paper groups like?

This rifle is German made by a company called GSG - German Sport Guns. The founder of the company designed the MP-5 for H&K so the story goes. It is used as a training gun for departments that don't want to spend the money on centerfire ammo. It is very accurate, shooting 1/2 inch groups with the red dot at 25yards, off hand except elbow braced against a vertical wall at my range. I have shot it at 50 yards, keeping most shots in about 1.25", shooting as fast as I could keep the dot on the target. The silencer is aftermarket. My local shop unscrewed the barrel shroud that came with the rifle, cut the barrel, threaded it and installed the silencer. Yes there is an extra fee for the silencer application, but perfectly legal. I applied and by the time the work was done, I walked out with the rifle. I have cycled about 10 different types of ammo through this rifle and it really does not care about it eats. I have not shot it with a scope yet, sure I could do better than with the red dot.

there is a review on Gunblast.com that got me excited about this rifle. When I had it in Texas, it was shooting a bit high with the factory open sights at about 50 yards. I have it zeroed in now.

Oh, I see. Made to look/feel like a "real" gun but shoot the good stuff. I like it.

Mike -

That just went off the charts on the "cool-meter"! I love the MP5. Shooting .22's through something that has its weight and feel would be fantastic!!! :D 8) 8) 8)
