EL 38-55 on GB

Post by Mike D. »

There has been a discussion on takedown rifles going on here and there is a '94 Winchester LW 38-55 on GB, as we speak. It's kind of a beater, and the seller wants too much for it, but a rare dog it is. I don't have the know how to post the actual auction, but the number is 10944789 if anyone wants to take a gander. :)

Here's the link. You dropped a 7 in the number I believe. I do like that configuration. To be perfect, it would need to be a short rifle for me ... just a preference though.

Mike,
While not collector grade, it is a nice "used and not overly abused" rifle for its age. (1899) There are a few spots of rust that can be easily cured. Every thing else is original. Wood to metal fit looks nice. As of now, the price is almost 12. It will more than likely go for twice that, maybe three times.-----------------------Sixgun

I don't think I would pay anymore then that, nice old rifle but the metal is a bit rough, I can't quite understand you fella's Stateside you seem to get real excited if there is one old gun on one of the auction sites, and yet if you go to Cabela's or Leroy Merz's site there are zillions of old WINCHESTER'S five hundred dollars to two hundred grand, something for everyone, I am on both sites every day I mostly look up 86's and 94's and I check every rifle, I have my sights on two at Cabela's right now but don't think I will have the funds but who knows things might change, but if you like drooling over old WINCHESTER'S they are the places to go. winchester1886.

I certainly would not go over 1500 bucks for that shooter grade gun. The bore is below average, despite the harder than standard NS barrel and the gun looks to have had a rough storage life, including some strange wrench(?) gouges on the barrel. I bid a minty NS barreled .38-55 SRC up to $3450 a few years ago and lost it by a couple hundred bucks. Oh well, I would have hunted it anyway and trashed it's collector value.
