Well, it looks like I'll be getting my old winchesters back from the gunsmith soon! One is a 32 Win Sp. and I'll be shooting factory stuff in that at least for now. The other is a 32-40 and I'll be handloading for that one.
I already have the correct brass and dies and some 5744 powder, I just need to order some cast bullets.
Montana Bullet works offers a couple different bullets with the correct nose to crimp groove length for the 32-40. Both options can be sized to .321 or .322. The gunsmith slugged the barrel and said that it was a very consistent .321 with no tight or loose spots.
So, should I go with the .321 or .322 sized bullets.
The other question is Montana offers one of their 32-40 bullets either as an air cooled with BHN of 15 or a Heat Treated with BHN of 22. Which should I go with?
The load I'm shooting for with the 5744 powder is somewhere in the ballpark of 1400fps.
Thanks!!!

Re: cast bullet for 32-40
I would go with the .322 bullets. I shoot .323 in mine and in my .32 sp also.
