Re: OT - Hurricane Ike pictures
That picture of the lone house is amazing....
First floor was designed to blow out....
foundation are most likely a pile foundation
with grade beams and monolithic slabs....
We have to do this on the florida beaches.....
obviously it works!
The designers and contractor who built that house
will now have it made in the shade....as far as getting work
incredible pictures!

It didn't work. That house is actually a total loss. The owner said it was deceiving in that it was still standing, but it is actually collapsing. If you look carefully at this house from different angles, the columns are all leaning and it cannot be occupied.
We don't need to encourage anyone to build along surge zones. They need to be discouraged as much as possible.

Thanks for the reminder. The devestation caused by major hurricanes takes years to recover. Those pictures make me want to move to Kentucky all the more.
As far as the house working or not. Yes a total loss, but I would have rather spent the night in that one than any of the other houses that are no longer there.

An awful lot of misery in those photos. Hard to believe the destruction mother nature can dish out! Thanks for posting and prayers continuing for all those affected by the Hurricanes!
Whatever you do always give 100%........... unless you are donating blood.

My wife and I were looking at these together. She mentioned that a lot of these people won't be able to rebuild due to Texas law. I wasn't aware of it but from what she has read I guess this means a new high tide mark has been established.
Seeing this makes me ever more thankful.
