Super blackhawk grips

I did a bit of gun trading and came away with a ruger super blackhawk anniversary model .44 mag. It's awesome, but the grips are just a tad small for my hands. I went on midway looking for some other options, but the reviews said the Hogue and pachmayer grips will only fit older model guns with the square trigger guard.

Anyone have some suggestions? I don't need anything too fancy, just something that fills my hand a little more.

If the 'new' and 'old' grip frames only differ in the trigger guard area, I'd think the grip panels would be the same, but maybe the grip frame is different in the handle part as well...

Just a thought - you might find someone with the older, larger frame, who'd trade because they have smaller hands and don't like the larger one; seems I see complaints about those frames being 'too big' now and then.

Finally, when I was in high school, I made a number of wooden grips for guns like that myself - it isn't that hard since the insides are flat. I only knew how to work with wood, not antler, bone, plastic, and all the other stuff some people use, but if you like wood grips, consider making your own; they'll make the gun even more personal and special for you.

The only anniversary 44 Mag I'm aware of is Rugers 50th Anniversary Flattop .44. If it's this gun it does not have, or did not come with the standard SBH dragoon style grip frame, or the normal XR3-RED style. It has a modified XR3 grip frame.

Ruger has some wooden grips available through their parts dept, but for really great grips go to CLC Custom Grips like kimwcook mentioned. I have two sets of Cary's grips and they are EXCELLENT.

The factory grip frame width on the standard Ruger grip frames is 1/2". On the 50th Anniversaries and the New Vaqueros it's somewhat less. CLC custom grips makes some that are thicker so that they come out the same overall thickness as the original XR3 grips. They are in my humble opinion well worth the funds. I got one of my sets two Christmases ago and intend to get more.
