POLITICS - Yet another Obama gaffe: "Utay vs. Ute"

Post by C. Cash »

OK...guilty as charged with the OT stuff, but I promise to get a range report up soon. I was watching a speech by Obama yesterday(for the brief 30 seconds I could stomach it) in Colorado and he was thanking those who had asked them to speak, including the "You-Tay" tribe. Now, I'm not an accomplished historian of the Southwest, but most folks of my generation knew or know of the Ute tribe, and of the state of Utah. Here is a fella who is going to represent the US and he doesn't even know how to pronounce the name of one of it's major tribes, which has a HUGE tract of land for a reservation in Southwest Colorado. I'm suprised no one picked up on this and ran with it and it is of course hush hush in the lefty media. Now, to be fair, I had the same problem when George Bush uses the term "Nucular" rather than "Nuclear," especially when he has his hand on the button. Just took me by suprise, but I guess nothing should suprise me at this point.

I really hated hearing her say it - but Palin also pronounced it "Nucular" in her interview.. I'm sure that she won't make that mistake again...

...well, our Aussie friends have utes, too.

We need to tell these people to say "NEW-CLEAR"!

There's a difference between regional dialectal differences and mis-pronunciation.

But lots of the Indian citizens will likely vote for the Democrat, according to the maps I've seen; too many have been hooked on our socialist programs. A sad state of affairs for a formerly self-sufficient and fiercely independent people.

I have to confess that even after completing an undergraduate degree in physics and another one in engineering, including several courses in nuclear reactors, bombs and theory, I still found myself saying 'nukuler' most of the time, much to my embarrassment. Where I grew up, it was the way the word was pronounced during the Cold War, and it is a dadgummed hard habit to get rid of.

Thanks for the pic fellas...exactly what I thought of....Pesci saying "Two Utes" and Fred Gwynnes look of horror and confusion, and then Joe Pesci's followup..."Two Yoooouthhhss".

Fellas...I know what your saying. I was raised by Texans and Oklahomans who changed nearly every word, and love to hear them talk. My wife still shakes her head to alot of what I say. BUT :D saying Utay for Ute kind of shows that you have no idea of who these people really are. That's what shocked me a good bit.

TN Hayre,

My reference to Bush was tongue and cheek, and he is one of my favorites. Sometimes, details are important. This detail says something about Obama, I believe if you think about it. When Howard Dean said that his favorite Biblical chapter was "Job", as in the Job where you work, It was pretty easy to surmise that he was not a Bible reader. When Obama said "Ute-ay" it is pretty easy to surmise that he has no idea who these folks are, except that he was supposed to thank them. Yep, we all make mistakes, but most of us don't run for President touting that we are the best man for the job. Just posted this as an FYI, take it for what it's worth.

We subscribe to http://www.newsmax.com on line & the Magazine because it gives the right news not the contrived BS from the far left news media HS.Today there was a report that ABC completely edited the Palin/ Gibson interview with Mrs Palin omitting items & deleting so her responses would appear in error, they had a copy of the original speech and what came over the tube wasn't her speech.
