Or: Why Men shouldn't work at the Reception Desk answering the phone without being Clairvoiant...
Why is it that when a woman works the Reception Desk (my wife) the people calling/walking in actually take the time to explain who they are, who they need to talk to &/or why they are calling and want to be transferred imediately, but when a guy (me) works the desk they expect me to know not only wh they are, who they want, &/or why they are calling/specifically how to fix their obscure project specific technical problem, they also want to be chatty AND get PO'd when I don't know all of the above?
Is it just because they they figure if a guy picks up the phone they automatically got the right technical person &/or that if they get a woman she's "just" a clueless receptionist bimbette?

Yep, that's about the size of it.

Yesterday I called my ISP for help with service outage on DSL. I got a woman who got right to the point and helped me fixed the problem. It was the best online/telephone 'service' I have ever had as she methodically and patiently went through the corrective procedure step by step. Even after I typed some of the steps incorrectly she patiently went back over them in a slow clearly enunciated voice. Too many men are more interested in showing off how much they know than they are in approaching the problem from the viewpoint of a person with limited understanding.
Same in medicine sometimes; I've seen a guy come in to hook up the television in a hospital room arrive at the same time a woman physician enters, and the patient assumes the guy is a doctor and the woman there to fix the television.
What irritated me was that the woman physician was "insulted" and that is a snotty attitude; why shouldn't the television guy be equally "insulted" to have been mistaken for a physician?

And that, right there, is why I posted.
I'm NOT an architect. I'm certainly not the project manager for eight or ten wildly different projects handled by any one of six different people, nor do I have the schedules of every person in the office memorized (I might could do that if anyone would actually tell me what the hades they were doing on any given day...)
But I'm a guy at an A/E office, so I'm supposed to be an architect/engineer.
As if I needed continual reminders that my non-A/E degree is a $40K worthless scrap of bog roll...
