National Capitol Gunshow

Post by 6pt-sika »

Took my dad to Chantilly Va. today for the "National Caitol Gunshow" . He kinda wants a nice 1841 Mississippi and of course they ALWAYS have 4 or 5 nice ones there !

I was looking for a nice Marlin "First Model" 444 made in either 1967 , 1969 or 1970 . Well I didn't see any Marlin "First Model" 444's of any vintage !

I di dhowever see a really nice Marlin 1894 in 25-20 with a 30" barrel (rare) it also had a nice period tang sight as well $3450 ! Pete Harvey from up in the new england states had it ! Have drooled over his adds in the Gun List for years . This was the first time I ever met the man !

Saw 4 o5 nice nice Marlin Model 36's and 1936's , they also had really nice prices (for the seller).

Saw quite a few nice 1886's in variouse calibers . One nice old 1886 did stick out to me it was what looked to be a nice one in 45-90 caliber . Would have loved to own it , but if memory serves the man wanted $7500 .
Also saw about 7 or 8 Model 71's from decent to real nice in condition !

There were quite a few Winchester 1873's,1892's , 1894's and 1895's there although I checked the prices on very few ! Also noticed one original Winchester model 1876 in 40-60 if memory serves but don't remmember price.

I used to be a bug SxS shotgun person and I still am to a certain degree however I rarely purchase one any longer . But I do look long and hard at them ! Saw many many many nice american SxS's ! Parkers , Fox , Winchester 21's and LC Smith's . And there seemed to be plenty British and Europena doubles there as well ! To say nothing of the 6 or 7 double RIFLES I saw from a couple different makers . One stuck out though it was a like new Merkel in 500 Nitro ! Man I would have loved to bring that one home ! Think they wanted $12,000

We stayed about 2 hours and my pop didn't like the 4 or 5 1841's he looked at although I think he was kinda in awe as he hadn't been to a gunshow of this quality in quite a few years ! He kinda got side tracked from looking at the 1841's as there were plenty original percussion Colt's there and of course he likes the doubles I like as well !

I didn't see any Marlin's I could afford that I couldn't live without . I did however manage to pick up a pretty nice old Weaver K6 . I want to mount this one on my old Marlin 336SC 219 Zipper ! I have it sighted in with a Leupold 4.5-14 right now for hunting season . So it will be a couple months before the scope goes on !

I also wanted to pick up a couple pounds of XMP5744 as my local dealer can no longer get it from his powder distributer . There were 3 folks in there selling reloading components and NONE had XMP5744 ! And only one guy even handled Accurate Arms Powder !

So I stopped at Clark Brothers in Warrenton on the way home and picked up 2 pounds .

On a side note the entrance fee to this show is now $12 which is no big deal for a quality gunshow . However there was a fair amount of NOT gun related stuff in there ! Things like jewelry , art and some flea market stuff . Now I realize they need to fill the tables , however I take exception at paying $12 to come in and look at stuff that should be in a roadside flea market !

But other then that I thought it was a pretty decent show
Parkers , Mannlicher Schoenauer’s , 6.5mm's and my family in the Philippines !

Sounds like a good day all the way around to me.

I really liked the Clark Brothers Gun Store when I lived in VA. The last gun I bought from them was in 1973 -- a Savage Model 99C in .308 Winchester.

Ed , I purchased the first 2 new rifles I ever purchased from Clark Brothers in 1973 I was 12 years old . Bought a 700BDL in 243 and a 10/22 . The 243 was $178 and the 10/22 was $59.99 .

Back then Clark Brothers was the cheapest place to buy guns bar none !

Now they play to the northern VA crowd and the prices on most things kinda went thru the roof compared to other shops !

I go in there looking for old , used or collectible guns . Haven't bought but one new rifle there in the last 20 years I would say :o
