I thought I'd post a couple of pics of the kind of stuff that I do in my shop. My shop is where I handload and this weekend's job was some test loads for my new 30-30 Ackley Improved:
As you can see, I'm a waste not want not kinda guy. Somebody left that empty box wth cartridge holders at the range - one man's trash... my treasure. Decided to use one of my favorite powders - Win 748.
Another spin-off of my Winchester 94 AI project was this:
I have this Rossi .22 pump gun ( a copy of the Winchester ) and I really like it - its the pre-wing safety model and it shoots and functions great - a fun little pump. The only thing I didn't like about it was the cheesy plastic buttplate - yech! So, I took the discarded Win 94 steel buttplate and bent it flat, screwed it on and scribed around the buttstock to show where I would need to grind - which is what I did - ground it to fit and then finished with a mill file and sandpaper. A little Oxpho Blue and viola' - custom fitted steel checkered buttplate for my little plinker.
These are the kinds of things that occupy my time in my shop.
My favorite 30-30 powder is also 748. I've never tried the AI version though.
Some years ago we also had a couple of the little Rossi pumps. Wish we still had one. Those were fun as can be. I do like the butt plate conversion though. Looks much better.

Joe, I have BL-C2 data for the AI and that is the Hodgedon version of W748 = same powder. But I was careful to check W748 data too (standard round). I'm looking forward to checkin those out. And thanks - that crappy plastic buttplate has been bugging me for a long time. Everything else on the rifle is so well done - it boggles the mind that they'd put such a silly looking, cheap arsed buttplate on it...
My "shop" is a dinning room table with cleaning supplies and a plastic box type gunholder.
Behing that is kindof a bar countertop with a small ~2-3 inch vise. I have the 1893 in the above
that I run lead removal patches thru when I get the time (started out with first third of barrel
full of lead), I have a WWII footlocker between the counter and table that has my broken M39
waiting for me to fit the new bolt I just got. In another room there is a desk with the 1893
action all apart waiting on a thourough cleaning and reassembly. My goal is to have the 1893
together in two weeks when I get the M99 Savage TD and make a range day of it.

my shop is whichever surface is covered with the thinnest layer...
I've been assembling this on the living room floor:
some fiddly work to get the turn of the bilges and the distribution of the displacement resolved.
here is the B1892 receiver that I still haven't gotten the barrel off of. yet. but I will. I just know it....................
I have the replacement barrel. I'll shorten it to sixteen inches and fill the barrel sight dovetail. Cut the mag tube to fit. The front sight is part of the front barrel band. thinking about shortening the forearm because they look funny to my eye when they're left long on a shortened barrel. thinking about the various ways to incorporate a bolt peep without getting all authentic about it. Probably going to paint the gun with one of the brownell finishes.
Marshall Stanton thinks the redhawk 405g load will cycle thru this action with little or no fiddling, which would be great. But I don't know if the twist rate will stabilize the bullet. It's gonna be fun finding out. I'm thinking the revolver round will get around 1200 fps, maybe more. That's gonna make a sweet walking around gun. Able to stop bear charges. Able to harvest any N.A. game in its range. And able to stop out of control squirrels. What's not to like? 'Cept that it's NOT DONE YET!
bsaride - I'm guessing you're a bachelor? That, or you're wife is really understanding. I've got to keep my man stuff out in in the shop - the wife runs the house - I had to fight just to get my prized whitetail mount in the family room (he's really purty and she gave in).
Grizz - what is that a kyak? And boy do I know what you're talkin about in removing the barrel from a winchester action.... I was really wanting a barrel clamp - I've got a shop press. But, since I wasn't all the worried about saving the barrel, I used a .... well a ... pipe wrench Got er done.

Just went to a gunshow on Friday to find some screws for my 30-40 Krag and a front magazine tube holder for the 38-55. But there is always something I can be putsing with if I can get the time.
O.S.O.K. dont' forget the range reports on your A.I.
Ben, I just went to the range today with it. I think it's shooting fine - but my bench setup and targets weren't cooperating. I kept pulling shots because the buttstock wasn't supported - just on my shoulder and I wasn't very steady. It looks like the 39.5 Grains of W748 under the Speer 150's is trying to print a nice group.
I need to go get some big circle targets and bring a sandbag with me - and then I'll be able to tell for sure.
I'm loading up 40 grains based on velocity and groups shrinking as I increased the charges and I'm also going to load a couple of 170 Speer loads up to try. Most of my 94's really do prefer 170 grain bullets.
So, I'm not really done with my testing yet... other than to tell that it wants a little more velocity and that the charges tried already were safe - top velocity was 2587 average. I should be able to get 2600 fps + easily.

Yup on the kayak. I built one from the same plans a loooong time ago. I used to hunt deer and pack water with it. Just gonna fish and sight-see now. Good transportation.
I have to make a block to hold the receiver in the vice. Then I'm gonna get the cheater on the pipe wrench and express myself!
awp - that brings back memories. I've always had a soft spot for the old bug. And they get good gas mileage too! Not to mention they're just fun to drive.
Ted - nice lookin loads! Are those for a double rifle?
