OT: Bad Weather (Hurricanes excepted) = P6

Post by Old Ironsights »

Prior Planning Prevents pee Poor Performance

Not that I have anything to whine about with Ike pounding those guys in TX:

Got up this AM after 12 + hours rain (here near Lake Michigan) to find standing water in the basement (about 5-10 gal). Seeps UP through the concrete.

Not a big deal though. Knowing that my Townhouse was built in a Swamp, there is nothing absorptive closer than 1" from the floor. (I like those metal cube shelves...) and nothing I I couldn't stand to lose/water ruinable is less than 6" from the floor.

The guns are in the watertight "safe" at 7"...

So, my Sump Pump is currently dumping 12gal every 115 seconds and the backup is waiting paitently.

I love it when a plan comes together. 8)

I had that and "Lack of planning on your part DOES NOT constitute an emergency on our part" signs hanging in the receiving area of our commo shop. At least until my CWO noticed them and made me take them down. :?

He didn't quite see it with the same sense of humor I did...

Always better to be prepared and not have the need.

You know, with all the fancy coatings and such today, I'm suprised no one has come up with one to seal an entire basement to make it "watertight". I suppose some might worry it could "float", like I've seen empty pools do, but pools don't have the weight of the above grond structure to hold it in place. I wonder if one could fiberglass an entire basement with one of those chopper guns they use in making some fiberglass products.

There are.

But my place was built in the 80s, in a swamp, just outside of the City Limits (no Building Inspector) by a well known cheap sonofademocrat.

'Course, I knew that going into the buy, so I planned accordingly.

Next step is to put joist hangers in after raising the sagging toe-nailed floor...

But hey... it only cost $69K...

In Fla. the water level is so high basements are few and far between.

Personally, I would think twice about keeping my guns in a basement with that much moisture in the air. Hope you have a safe drier.

Heh. This is Indiana. Tha average ambient humidity is only slightly less than that of the Florida Swamps...

I have a safe drier (goldenrod) and a dehumidifier... on each floor.

Little off topic, AWP; I had a sign in my office that said " Dirty deeds done dirt cheap "
My boss said it was inappropriate for an FAA representitive.
I wonder why?
