Re: OT: Old Westerns
Thanks for posting, sad but interesting. Glad there are still a few good Western Stars left.

Re: OT: Old Westerns
Sorry to say the current TV and Hollywood actors are not represented, but none of them have the class, manners or ethics of most of the old time crowd. The old movies and TV may have been corny, but they were fun, decent for all ages and most of all, they didn't try to be politically correct. They just told a story, good against evil, and 99% of the time, good won out. Boy do I miss that.

Re: OT: Old Westerns
That was good, I think I recognised 80% of the actors. Does this make me a really old fanny burp?
If the government doesn't trust me with my guns, why should I trust them with theirs?

Thanks for this! I caught the tail end of this era as a kid in the 60's. Where those the good old days or what?!
Re: OT: Old Westerns
I love the Statler Brothers opening (but I'm from Staunton, the HOME of the Statlers). I( remember quite a few too but from early Saturday morning.
I really like the Guns of the Old West magazine and the stories about those guys.

What a great show! Two of the actors that have pasts that may not be well known. I believe I read that Neville Brand was the most decorated WW2 veteran. Audy Murphy was the most recognized. Also Leo Carrillo was a decendent of the original family to receive a Spanish Land Grant from Spain that covered most of southern California from L.A., south.
Many lived to their 50's and 60's but many had long lives. Tom Mix and Buck Jones died young. Gene Autry controlled the rights to his movies for TV use and made a fortune from them.
My dad's hero was William S. Hart. His costumes were quite accurate as opposed to later films. If you ever see one of his films watch for that.

Does it sound stupid? but I loved that the good guys were GOOD guys and not bad guys with a concsience. Maybe that is what is wrong with America. No one has any real public heros to look up to (excluding our brave soldiers of whom I am deeply proud to be from the same country)

Not to argue but Audie Murphy WAS the most decorated Soldier, Sailor, Marine in WWII.Gun Smith wrote:What a great show! Two of the actors that have pasts that may not be well known. Re: OT: Old Westerns
Brand was a decorated veteran, but not as highly as Murphy.
They were both "heroes" worthy of the title.

Re: OT: Old Westerns
I stand corrected. It appears that he may hve been the fourth highest. But his brother disputes a lot of his war record as being made up and false.
Re: OT: Old Westerns
As long as we are mentioning the combat record of hollywood stars, James Arness didn't get that limb playing golf, Jimmy Stewart "retired" as a BG from the Air Force Reserve. The list could go on and on. Sadly, one of the reasons "Hollywood" is as it is today, is that few of the top perfomers served in the military, much less in combat, and I haven't heard of any that are highly decorated.

Re: OT: Old Westerns
The only decorations Hollywood has today is the "self-gratification" emmy's they give to themselves. Most of them wouldn't know how to wear a uniform unless the prop man or costume lady helped them get dressed. Compared to the Old Western actors, today's Hollywood is a disgrace and getting worse every time one of them opens their mouth.
