Rate of twist in Marlins

Post by foxtrapper »

Just to be sure. The rate of twist in the micro groove barrels is 1 in 38" correct? The Ballard rifling that is being produced now in the 1894's and the 1895's is still 1 in 38" ,yes?

It depends on caliber. The only ones that ever were 1:38 were the .44s & .45 Colt. The only one that is still 1:38 is the .45 Colt Model 1894. If you want to know current twist rates just go to the Marlin site, they list the twist for all current production guns in the technical data for the model. '95s have never been 1:38, and the only caliber in that model is .45-70.

Thanks don't know why I included the 1895 in my original query. I went to the Marlin website and I found that the 1894 in 44 mag is 1 in 38" :D

CBH, I was kinda surprised at your answer, looking at the Marlin website, the .45 Colt is listed as 1:16"; 1894 Cowboy, .45 Colt. I'd heard that they changed the .44Mag, but their site still lists it as 1:38"; 1894 Cowboy, .44RemMag.

Griff, you're right. It was the .45 Colt they changed. True to form they announced this change a few weeks after I bought an 1894 Cowboy Classic .45 Colt.

I have seen it published that the .44s were changed too, but Marlin still shows 1:38. But, on the other hand, the Marlin site also showed the last run of 1894CL in .32-20 as having Micro-groove rifling too when they never did. It really looks like the site developer needs to get with production on some details.
