Here is a question I've been wondering about since I got my Marlin 1894 Cowboy.
Is the Length of Pull the same, longer or shorter than the original ones made in the late 1800s to early 1900s?
Mine seems really short. Even feels shorter than my Winchesters.

Joe, one of my shootin buddies up here at Bristol has an original Marlin 1894, in .32-20 I believe. I'll ask him to measure his & at least you'll know what that dimension is, if someone here on the forum can't provide the data. You might also look in on the, (dare I say it?) marlinowners.com site. You could also call Marlin Customer Service.......I think their number is 1-800-544-8892. They're on the east coast, so they're an hour ahead of us. jd45

Re: Marlin Length of PUll - Original vs Current
JD,
Thanks I appreciate you asking your shooting buddy.
I'm a member of so many forums I just don't want to join any more. I might actually be a member of marlinowners.com for all I know. I'll have to check.
I suppose I should call Marlin, but considering there's probably nobody there that was even born born when the originals were made, I'll bet you a box of primers they'd have no idea.
If I remember I'll call them Monday.
What's it cost to shoot at Bristol?
Joe

A yearly membership costs $75.......then I pay $5 to shoot each session, unlimited time. I normally go back to the blackpowder section so I can shoot my replica cartridge guns as well as my front-stuffers, but they'll put a wristband on me if I want to then go up front & shoot my .35 Rem 336RC, which tells the other guys I paid my range fee. A non-member pays $30 now. My membership was due to be renewed before the end of August, but I let it lapse because once you turn 62, which I will on Oct. 20th, the membership fee is only $25. I just have to pay a one-time $15 processing fee cause I'm 2 mos overdue. It's too bad Bristol's so far, Joe........it's 50 miles north of ME & you know where I live.

Re: Marlin Length of PUll - Original vs Current
Howdy
I have a Marlin Model 1894, made in 1895. It has a crescent shaped but plate, so the measurement may be slightly different than with a modern shotgun style buttplate. The length of pull on my old Marlin is 13 1/8" to the center of the crescent. This is the shortest dimension, to other points on the butt it would be longer.

Also have a Winchester Model 1892 made in 1894, also with a crescent shaped butt plate. Measured the same way, the length of pull on the Winchester is slightly less, 12 7/8".

I don't know where we're going but there's no sense being late.

JD,
Thanks for information. We still need to find a place half way that we can both afford.
Driftwood Johnson,
You're measuring from the trigger to the center of the but plate, right? I think that's how it's done.

Re: Marlin Length of PUll - Original vs Current
Well, I just measured mine. "IF" I measured it right it looks like 13 3/8". Does that sound right?
