We had our garage broken into back in May and had a lot of fishing gear, tools, all of my archery gear, my range gear, some ammo, and some miscellaneous items stolen. Since then, we've settled with the insurance company and have replaced most of the items. Once the initial feelings of anger, violation, and downright lust for violent revenge subsided, we settled back into our routine and all has been well. The alarm system, side security doors and garage openers were upgraded and additional perimeter precautions taken. We always thanked the man upstairs that only items were taken and not a life.
So out of the blue this morning, I received a call from the local DA's office here in Sacramento informing me that they actually caught the slimy *** that burgled our place. He was caught with some stolen items and his prints were traced back to those picked up from the inside of one of my garage tool cabinets. Later this afternoon, I spoke to a detective and we have an appointment tomorrow to ID the scumbag. (What are the chances they'll let me see him with my .45 in hand...?? Or at least a Louisville Slugger??)
At this point, we don't know his name or his record, but if it goes to trial we'll get to know him very well. All we've been told is that he has several priors and that since we were home at the time, this is a felony strike. (Yeah yeah...we never heard the break-in. Both of us were suffering from allergies that night and were zonked out on meds. A nuke blast couldn't have woken us up!
Thanks to the very left-leaning mayor's office in this town, robbery and burglary has become a second-tier priority for the SPD. Can't blame the guys and gals in blue, this is all about the administration and local political hacks who run the place. We were very very VERY skeptical that anything would be done about "just another burglary" in the neighborhood. However, they actually came through for us. Not a bad way to start the day!!
As things progress, if anything of interest comes up, I'll pass it along.
