Looks good from here. Nothing special although the condition is up there and it is a pre-safety. $425 seems a bit high to me. $350 seems more like it. However, Winchester prices and demand seem to have dragged the Marlin prices up as well.

[$350 seems more like it.]
Tops. That's probably what the owner's gonna get, after the seller takes out his consignment fee.
If you like/want it, I would suggest asking the seller to relay your offer to the owner - after all, what do you have to lose ?

Went and looked at it today. Very clean 1964 gun.
Had the paperwork done when salesman said it would be 40 days,
30 days because of consignment, 10 days for CA.
I walked away, because it won't do me any good to get it the week
before hunting season. Time to puruse the local shops this weekend.
I don't have time for this...

It's like an old saying a friend told me 50 years ago, "there's as many fish in the sea, that have been caught, and just as good of bait that caught them". You will find a nice Marlin, not too scarce.
To hell with them fellas, buzzards gotta eat same as the worms.

I was going to say that the price is a little high there - you can find good condition rc's on gunbroker for $250 if you're patient. I saw two go for less just the last two days - I've been considering getting one to convert to 30-30 AI. But I just got through spending $$$ on my 94 project...
And that rifle has a 20" barrel, not 18.

I pay $150 for a transfer from my FFL that I've been using for 25 yrears.
The $425 wasn't bad if it's local and I don't have to pay the transfer fee
(yeah I know it's high, normally around here it's $90)

My funshop only asks for $25. I'm a lucky guy.
Did you know that you can get a C&R license for $30 and order stuff 50 years and older to your door? Yes, I'm pretty sure that's OK in kalifonication too.
How about a nice 1957 336? $380 to your door....

Re: Talk to me about Marlin 336RC
Seriously, $30 is the fee - you just fill out the paperwork and get a set of fingerprint cards made (the local constable can do that for you for free) and they do a background check. But its good for 3 years and all's you have to do is keep a log and follow the rules. If you don't renew your license, the book becomes your personal property and the ATF has no further privaleges. They can ask to see your guns and log but it's your option to bring them in or have them come to your house... I've renewed twice and never been audited - knock on wood.

Wow - around here transfer fees over $20 would be considered outrageous!bsaride wrote:I pay $150 for a transfer from my FFL that I've been using for 25 yrears.

[salesman said it would be 40 days, 30 days because of consignment, 10 days for CA.]
I never heard of such a thing, and don't think I'd do any kind of business with them, after pulling that shenanigans !
What the heck does he mean "30 days for consignment" ?
Does that mean that you're not buying it, even though you pay & do the paperwork ?
Is he still going to try to sell it to someone else ?
In my eyes. "sold" means "sold", period - paperwork to follow, or not.
BTW - $90/$150 for a transfer fee ? ? ? R U Crazy ?
.

I haven’t paid that much for machine gun transfers. What country are you in?
