Did the following:
-Disassembled and removed the old barrel (which was pitted)
-Installed new barrel - which entailed some fitting ( I used a file to take material off of the shoulder of the barrel where it mates with the face of the receiver)
-Blued the marks that I made doing above
-Rechambered the rifle to 30-30 Ackley Improved - this was really quite easy. I decided to just use my Brownells do drill oil and carb cleaner - did about 8-12 rotations, removed the reamer , flushed the chamber, whiped the chamber out with a slotted jag/patches, flushed the reamer and brushed with do drill, poured some do drill oil into the bore and reinsterted the reamer - repeated until finished. I need't have worried about going too far as the shoulder on the reamer does not cut and acts as a guide - perfect!
-Stamped "A.I." behind the .30 W.C.F. stamping on the barrel - turned out fine. This is always a little scary but the octagonal barrel with it's flats made this much much easier than a round barrel.
-Re-installed the barrel and checked headspace (again) - heaspace is good.
-Recontoured the inletting on the back of the handguard (it was configured for an older type receiver) and fit this to the rifle, finishing with some spirit stain and boiled lineseed oil. This went well though I ended up with a little gap at the front - but not bad.
-Installed the magazine tube and innerds.
-Installed a front sight (didn't like the one that came with) - went with a Marbles 1/16" brass bead
-Installed the buttstock (which I finished to closely match the handguard)
-Installed the Marbles tang sight (rear screw only)
-Checked for feeding and function - worked great! Magazine holds 4 rounds so you only lose 1 round of capacity by going this route.
And that's what you see in the pictures below.
I've got a Marbles sight blank and tang sight screw set on order and will finish the sight install when that arrives.

As you can see, there is a slight gap in the handguard at the front, but not bad (I'm happy with it!). Everything else worked out great! I'm really pleased with the Numrich kit and reamer that I got from Midway. I wouldn't hesitate to do this again - it's been a fun project.
The receiver is worn and I'm considering going with color case hardening - the only traditional finish that works with these scintered steel receivers.
I may also get a walnut buttstock with cressent butt. I think that would just finish it off right.
I'm looking forward to getting the remaining parts and getting it to the range. I'll be loading some gas check cast bullets over mild but near full pressure loads to fireform the cases. Using brand new RP brass.
I'll post more when I get initial range results.
Again, thanks to all that helped with my amature gunsmith questions.
