357 Marlin Cowboy to the range today.

Post by Old Savage »

This was the first group today with the Model 94. The first shot with this rifle when clean is usually a couple inches left. There are nine shots here. Wasn't particularly happy with this 100 yd group. But look at the pattern when the first and last shots are covered by dimes. I always kind of wonder if the rifle or my shooting is the cause when this sort of thing occurs.

Old Savage,
Did you shot this group with or without scope and what kind of ammo did you use?
Anyway not that bad at all!

Rman - four power Leupold compact and PMC 158 JSP. That has been the most consistent velocity wise in this rifle.

Does the Cowboy model have Ballard or Micro-groove rifling?

I'm thinking the 5 shot horizontal string is due to blood flow in your arm. You can see it at long distances, but it might be harder to notice it at 100 yards. Line up on something about 400 yards out and you will see the gun's path. Even the trick of expelling and holding breath won't eliminate the waving barrel.

Regards..,
