Went to town yesterday to put some bills in the U. S. Mail and on a whim stopped in one of our two local gun shops. As soon as I walked in, the owner, knowing I'm a sucker for any .30-30 rifle, pulled up a Marlin 336 .30-30 and dang near pushed it in my hands. It was made in 1977 (no cross-bolt safety) and I'd say it is probably 85% to 90%. Well, I hemmed and hawed for about 90-seconds and snapped it up. I paid $425.00 for it and I think that was a fair price.
As in so many cases, the rifle had belonged to one of our local old-timers who passed away not long ago. Guys who knew the fella were pestering his widow for the Marlin .30-30 and other guns he had and were offering her ridiculously low prices for his guns. She got fed up and brought them to George at the gun shop and he gave here a fair price for them all. I'm glad she did as I now own a really nice Marlin .30-30.
I can't pick up the rifle until 8 September so no pictures at this time but I will post some when I pick it up.

Sounds good. I don't know much about Marlins and I have no idea how to price them; I am always way off when it comes to judging the value. Maybe that should be my next educational venture.

I think knowing where it came from adds extra value to the rifle. Congratulations.
