Hillsville, VA Gun Show / Flea Market

Post by Yance »

Anyone going to the HUGE Hillsville, VFW gun show/flea market this weekend?

Something like 1900 vendors and 300,000 folks passing through over the 4 days.

I'll be there at least tomorrow, possibly Saturday.

I'm not but buddy and co-worker Howard will be there Friday and Saturday. Big barrel-chested guy, short dark hair looking mostly at the military stuff.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I went a couple of years ago, much more flea market than gun show, not worth it to me to go back and fight the mobs....

Kinda like panning for gold...sometimes you gotta wash a lot of dirt before you turn any "color". Well, I turned some "color" early today.

1952 Model 94 Winnie, 90-95% on the metal, 80-85% on the wood. Few minor scrapes and one bruise, original finish just beginning to flake a tiny bit by the buttplate.

Almost no blueing wear on the bottom of the receiver. All letters and numbers still have raised edges so it's for real.

Are my Marlins going to me mad at me????

Pics when I get back home Monday PM.

Not all that good at details if there was no way they they could come home with me.

I thought the Early Marlins seemed overpriced, as was most everything else, like $3995.00 for a "restored" 1886 .45-70.

I wonder where some of these folks get their idea that just because it's old it's super valuable. Seems that any piece of junque they have gets looked up in some fairly recent edition of The Blue Book, check the 98%-100% column, and add 10%-20% because it's so "rare" and that's what they write on the tag. Some will cut $25.00-$50.00 on $400-$500 guns so you'll think you're getting a "deal".

I have rarely been in the mindset of buying to resell to turn a qhick buck, and when I have, it's usually bittien me in the ***, so if I see something I like, and can swing the buy, it comes home with me. Otherwise I look and think, "that's a nice 'un", and walk on.
