OT..RE: Terry Murbach

Post by slimster »

As many on this forum have observed previously, it is unquestionable that Mr. Murbach is a goldmine of knowledge for all things gun related, but his posts have a way of off-putting people who don't quite know how to take him. In the virtual world of the internet, where you cannot gain any perspective from tone or inflection, it is quite easy to acquire a wrong impression. I will admit that my mental picture of Mr. Murbach was of a cross between an ogre and Mr. Potter from "It's A Wonderful Life", but this afternoon, as I was re-reading one of my favorite books, John Taffin's "Big Bore Handguns", on pg. 158 I saw a picture of him with other distinguished individuals such as John Wooters, Bart skelton and Jim Wilson. HE'S ACTUALLY A QUITE HANDSOME AND HUMAN INDIVIDUAL! :o And he obviously keeps good company too! P.S. I hope you don't mind me having a little fun with you, and I hope to be able to benefit from all of that knowledge for a long time.

Oh geeze, now you did it! He's gonna get a swelled head for sure. He'll probably post in bold all caps now. :D

So lemme get this straight. Hanging out for a photo op with some other gun folk makes one "human", and excuses a persistent and willful lack of common internet courtesy and any hint of compassion on the part of the writer? In other words, he gets to use the globally accepted convention for yelling (all caps, all the time), with a bull snort tone? A donkey among a herd of horses is still an a&& There are PLENTY of learned folk in gun land who are by turns, compassionate, humorous, even entertaining when gruff ( The late great Cooper comes to mind, along with a few in the manufacturing and custom end of the business I am aquainted with). TM is rude and crude and obviously enjoys it.

Not so much, no. But I, for one, don't think he needs one. He sure knows guns and leverguns and that is what does it for me. I don't give a hoot how ornery he might seem. I'd like to shake his hand someday and thank him. I value his opinion and appreciate having him on this board.
Kind regards,
Tycer

I know of a couple of folks who use voice recognition software to post who also have to use all caps. How is that impolite? I know of one fella that hardly ever posts because he has ONE hand and he never was a typist. How is it that he isn't a treasured member of the forum? I hardly think that brief posts, to the point posts in caps is a reason for anyone to be offended. If it helps you get through his infrequent posts think of him as that rich, super-intelligent, curmudgeonly old grandfather you have to see once a year to stay in his will. There's something of benefit to be had from the experience no matter how unpleasant you might think he is at the time. In this case the payoff is instant. I've always preferred such folks to some of the smarmy backstabbers I've known.
Sincerely,

Hobie
