Opinions on Winchester/Miroku 1892

I stopped by a little gunshop today and spotted an 1892 behind the counter. It is a newer Winchester 1892 chambered in .44-40, it has a fairly long round barrel, at least 24 inches. Ithas the curved rifle type buttstock. The rifle is in excellent condition appearing new. The price was $550.
I currently own only Marlin lever action rifles.
Opinions wanted.
Is there anything inherently wrong with these newer Winchester's?
Are there any issues in reloading the .44-40 cartridge?
Is there anything specific I should check out, mechanicly on this rifle if I decide to purchase?

It sounds to me like you need a good 92 in your herd of Marlins. As far as I know they are very well finished rifles pretty true to the old 92's. You will like the feel of the action. I have an old 1892 32-20 a couple of Rossi 92,s they are nice.

Beautifly made rifles and $550 would be a bargain.Some don't like the tang safety and the rebounding hammer although the hammer can be modfided.I've got three; 45 Colt, 38-40, and 32-20.44-40 brass is a little thin but it's a fine cartridge.I shoot 44-40 in a Navy Arms 92 rifle.

They are very high quality rifles, and $550 is a bargain - especially for one in 44WCF. I get no heartburn whatsoever over rebounding hammers or tang safeties!

NOPE, I think they're right fine. A little different on the interior from the originals, but good, solid, well-built replicas.

Are there any issues in reloading the .44-40 cartridge?

Yes, the brass is a little more expensive than some others, sometimes in short supply, and the case necks are relatively thin. Watch for crumpled cases if you try to crimp them too heavily.

Is there anything specific I should check out, mechanicly on this rifle if I decide to purchase?

If it's the Winchester/Miroku vs. the Browning/Miroku (which as a .44-40 I think it will be), watch for proper operation of the rebounding hammer. It's not a difficult fix, but... one should be aware going in that as with all the rebounding hammer leverguns; it seems that they're plagued with light primer strikes. Not all are affected, but... a word to the wary.

I believe that several others here on the forum have them, and will eventually chime in.

I have a Win- mirokou 1892 .44mag, 20"bbl and it has been a fine rifle. Tang safety and rebounding hammer have not given me a lick of trouble. No misfires or failures to feed. They are a well built gun. 550.00 is a excellent price. If you want a 44-40 I say buy it. You should also post pictures when you get it Good luck.

Dunno about that specific rifle but the two rifles I have from Miroku are very much first class guns.
