Wildlife plot destroyed

Post by AJMD429 »

For 18 years we've maintained a 4-5 acre wildlife planting (crabapple, lespedeza, viburnum, hazelnut, bayberry, etc. in rows over an alfalfa and clover and timothy base). It was under a power line easement, and all the plantings conformed to the plants listed in the easement agreement as "suitable for planting in power line easements" - the power company even posted it as an "erosion control project" to deter their line crews from spraying.

They just sprayed the whole area with roundup or something, and everything is now dead.

What do you want to bet that they'll apologize and offer to clear the area, then re-plant it with mature (15-20 year old) shrubs and low-growth trees so it is back to original state by next year. Of course they'll pay for my son and daughter and I to hunt off-property for the coming year, or the equivalent in reimbursement for the cost of venison.

Sure they will.

Maybe if I was a lawyer.

Or in the mafia.

That is crappy. Even if you didn't hunt it there was time/effort put into the maintenance of the property. Just another case of people not paying attention while doing a seemingly simple task(don't spray crops).

Well, if you followed the easement agreement and they didn't do you have any legal recourse if need be?

I've never dealt with anything like that so I don't know...

Are the sign multi-lingual?
Maybe the spray crew doesn't read English.

Really sorry to read of your loss.

I'd get in there real quick and plant some clay peas or some black eyed peas right from the grocery store to get the deer coming back in before the season so they get their habits established.
