I looked this up on gunbroker and there's one listed for for $950... but that's the asking price. What are these worth?
The reason that I ask is that I have a K98 mauser with correct nazi marked bayo and scabbard and correct sling for sale on gunbroker and there's a guy that wants it but wants to trade a Colt NM for it... he says hes a WWII buff and is hankerin for this but want's to make this trade. I've got it listed for a starting bid of $899...
I'm selling to get money to put down on land out in Colorado. I've been able to scrape up a few nice rifles in my collection over the years and want to change some in for our vacation/retirement place... actually planning something in advance for a change...
So what do you guys think?

Well.... I'd rather have a series 70 1911 than a Mauser 98 (yes, I'm simplifying it a bit) and the values are comparable... but I suggest that you keep your eyes on the prize if the prize is a place in heaven, er... Colorado. (I'd move to WY or MT myself but CO is nice outside of Denver...)

Colorado is within a long day's drive of my current location. And, I can have a nice little patch up next to NF land where elk and mulies hang out...
And perhaps more importantly, my wife likes that area

I agree with Hobie as the two guns are valued comparably. The Series 70 might be worth a bit more if the condition is very nice and it has the box, papers, etc. Its also more desireable to a larger group of people, therefore, if your 98 looks like a hard sale, a trade might be the way to go. The NM 70 series will sell quick if its priced a bit below what others are asking. But...............you have to be sure the 70 Series is original as collectors don't want a Colt thats had add-ons or alternations which is common with target guns.
Yea, this game gets a bit confusing but you have to be careful with people "looking to trade" as they are usually looking to pass their headache on to someone else.----------Sixgun

Good advice. Thanks. I will need to press him for more information. He told me this has only had 15 rounds through it. I don't recall anything about the box...
It is getting very hard to find non-russian-capture k98's with nazi markings in the condition mine is in - and the bayo and sling are real pluses - as they are both also very hard to find and are high value.

Re: OT - value of a Colt MKIV Series 70 Gold Cup National Match
That only-so-many-rounds-through-it line is getting old to me. Once fired outside the factory it is used. You can do a lot of damage with one round, you can find major flaws with just a box of ammo. It means nothing. Look at the gun. I ask "WHY are you selling? What's wrong with it?" I believe them when they say they are tired of it or need the money (perhaps for another gun) but when they hesitate... they'd better tell me the wife is making them sell it or the recoil is too much for them.
Sincerely,
Hobie
