Here's some pics of the Win 94 357 Magnum cartridge stop. It is not listed in the exploded diagram but is part #u346410100 .
I now know why the loading gate on my 357 gets popped out after a mag full of rounds. My cartridge block is broken and the case head is small enough to deflect off the end of the lever towards the loading gate. I will take my lever and build up the end to match the thin spring steel Winchester used. I can see where the cartridge block on the new to me 357 is beginning to deform.
Had the same problem and ordered a couple spares. I too have been trying to think up a fix for this so that the factory spring steel stop could be removed.
If I understand you correctly you plan to build up the lever to act as the spring stop does now? Doesn't the spring stop need to "flex" back toward the lever so that it will slide past the bottom portion of the bolt mechanism? If you build this lever area up an out won't that restrict the lever from closing by hitting the bolt lower parts?
Let me know how this works, I would love to ditch the spring steel stop.
Excellent pics of that elusive little part. Would you mind if I kept those pics for future use. They are the only pics of that variation I've seen to date.

Looks to me like you would need to open the bolt face a bit, swap out the cartridge guides with those of a 44mag and possibly the lifter, have the chamber reamed.
This would eliminate the need for the metal cartridge block that is giving us the problem.

Have I missed something or is this doable?
3T,
You would also have to replace the loading gate, ejector - notice how much different it is, and possibly the extractor. It might be easier to just replace the bolt with a .44 bolt.
I like the idea though. A short stuby bottlenecked cartridge.
