I got an invite to the 390th SMW (Strategic Missile Wing) reunion the other day and I got a little nostalgic and did a internet search and came up with these two pictures of a couple of my old cronies. I thought that y'all might like to see what what your tax dollars were paying for during the cold war. We maintained the propellant system aboard the TITAN II ICBM. The protective clothing that they are wearing are called RFC Suits (Rocket Fuel Handlers Clothing Outfit). My mother was so proud of me when she found out that I wore a suit to work every day
I wonder if NKJ could put one of his slick trigger jobs on one of these?

Really Baby, I swear that it just followed me home.
Outstanding. You guys were the tip of the spear right along with the boomer crews and BUFF guys. Thanks for your service, Duff. You may have worn a suit to work...but it was with a Russkie ICBM crosshairs on your back!!!
That's the biggest softpoint I've ever seen....
Some people just need a sympathetic pat on the head.....with a hammer. Repeatedly.
My father-in-law did two tours with the 390th. He says he thinks he was the only officer in operations that became "Scape Suit Qualified". Col. Thomas Pickett ... although I'm sure he wasn't a Colonel back then. I sent him a copy of your Titan picture ... he loved it.
... I love poetry, long walks on the beach, and poking dead things with a stick.
What years was he at Davis Monthan? Has he been notified of the reunion? The reunion is for all 390th SMW personel Operations, Maintaince and all support. He can find contact info at the web site below.
I'll send him the link. He lives in Phoenix these days. I believe he got into missiles after he did Rolling Thunder for a while, which was after he did Vietnam. I think he handled test launches at Vandenberg for a while and then did inspections and certifications of SAC weapons facilities.
He had a great story about a civilian truck driver that got lost on his way to deliver a booster to Vandenberg and while turning around managed to roll the thing off of his truck and into a ditch. Can you imagine getting a call from the California Highway Patrol to please come get your ICBM?
Of course, he did about 10 years with Lockheed after the Air Force before retiring. He had 30+ years in the Air Force.

He was there from '66 to '69 and then back again from '70 to '73. He's thinking about driving the 90 minutes down to the reunion now that I've sent him the site link you posted. He's getting a kick out of it. My wife will be visiting her parents at that time along with one of my kids so I'm not sure he'll make it.
