OT - Rant on Ammo discontinuation

Post by Tycer »

Winchester only offers the wimpy 200 grain loads in the 356, 358 and 375 Win calibers. Ptuey I say. Should be more like 225s in the 356 and 358 and 250s in the 375.

And the 150s out performed the 180s in the 307 when it came to trajectory. Much closer to 308 Win trajectory than the 180s. The little bit of extra space in the 308 case shows up with the 180s in MV vs pressure.

Rant off.
Kind regards,
Tycer

Yeah, I don't see why with the .375 Win. they didn't keep the 250 and lose the 200. Savings on materials costs, I guess.

At this point, I'd just be happy if Hornady came out with some LEVERevolution bullets and/or ammo for the .38-55/.375 Win., hopefully no lighter than their current 220-grain InterLock.

There's your best argument for reloading... versatility. Now, get them calculators out and prove to the finance person yer gonna save money by not havin' to buy all that "collectible" ammo!

Most folks using the 375 were shooting deer and thought that you had to have the great god VELOCITY on your side to kill. Sadly the companies sell or keep sellin only what sells. Ah but with cast slugs...

The ammo companies did it for one simple reason, SALES. Do not ask me to explain the ammo buying folks reasons. Look at the .348 and the discontinuation of the 250gr projectile. A glance at their marketing may shed some light on the subject. I paraphrase "the 200gr bullet, a flat shooting load suitable for western game" or something to that effect. I thought the .348s rep. was built around the 250gr load? Go figure.? Sorry for the horrible grammar. 1886.

Well, already said - reload :)

And with the prices of ammo what they are, reloading is more economical than ever by comparison. A dollar a pop :(

My .356 get's fed loads with 220 grain Speers. I also have some with 250 grian Hawk FN's and 200 grain Rem Corlokts.

I can even have cartridges that don't even have any factory ammo available - 30-30 AI :) I'm planning to load mine with 150's at 2500-2600 fps - very similar to the 307 with 150's.
