I have a half an idea to make a .44 manglem Marlin I own cheap (and in nearly new condition) into a "trapper" chambered properly for my Cowboy .45 Special (.45 Colt except for length, which is .895, same as ACP). I've heard there are folks who could re-bore and rechamber the .44 manglem for .45, re-cutting the chamber while they were at it. The other half of the project would be to shorten the barrel to 16.5", and do the needed carrier, ejector mods to cycle the C45S cartridge (that is something I know how to do/get done). It would end up a 10+1 capacity shorty with a proper chamber for C45S.
Who could re-bore, rechamber the .44 barrel for me? Anybody know?
Re-bore/re-chamber? Who to call?

I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

I thought doing a 1894 SS that way from 44 Magnum to 45 Colt would be really nice - wind up with a stainless 45 Colt go-to gun! Any reason you couldn't do it in the .45 "long" Colt vs. the .45 Cowboy?

Sure, the "colt to Cowboy" ya don't even NEED to re-chamber. The two rifles I have for CAS started life as .45 Colt, and all that was changed is the carrier (for a custom made one), relocate the ejector, and reprofile the business end of the lever to achieve timing.
They work just great for CAS, but with a chamber about 3/8" longer than it needs to be, they're not the ideal platform to play with the accuracy potential of the round. (though not as degraded as one might think).
I already HAVE the 20" round barrel Marlin .44 Magnum. It is nearly new, has nice wood, and I never use it. So to me, it's a "free" gun to start the project with. I just figured if I was gonna re-chamber a .45, may as well re-bore the .44. I figure while I'm at it, chop it to 16.5 or so and still have a 10+1 capacity with the short rounds. Might be a fun little gun
