OT - Just had a discouraging chat...

Post by AmBraCol »

The gun laws in my country of residence are tough, to say the least. And politicians and other idjits want to make them worse. We're always having "permit suspensions" whenever the president comes to town or someone decides that there's too many drug related killings (as if someone would be using a registered weapon to commit a crime). Anyway, I know a guy who's "in the know" about the current situation. Recently they suspended transfers between individuals unless related by blood (closer relation than "on Adam's side") and now I find out that even though they've got a fair selection of weapons at the army store (apparently all in the store house) that your chances of picking one up for the official list price are pretty close to nil. And apparently the graft runs all the way to the top. Surprise, surprise. When the state holds a monopoly you can guarantee that it's gonna go against the common man. Anyway, it's not like I've got an extra $2,500 for a 12 gauge pump right now, it's just the thought that even if I DID it'd be "luck of the draw" as to whether I'd be able to get one for list price - or not. And there's NO WAY I'm greasin' someone's palm to "facilitate" things... Never have, never will. OK. Whining session over. :) Y'all enjoy your easy access to firearms. Send a few rounds downrange for me. And DON"T GIVE ANOTHER INCH. We MUST keep up the fight to maintain our natural right to keep and bear weapons. I live under what will happen to us if we don't - and it ain't purty...

That's awful. I often take for granted how good I got it.

I'll fire off something big for ya.

I always try to remind my kids and other adults who will listen how TERRIBLE some places right here in the US are when it comes to firearms freedoms. If I'm shooting a gun with them that is illegal to own in California, for instance, I'll point it out, especially AFTER they've shot it and seen how much fun it is and how it can be harmlessly enjoyed.

When I worked all-night shifts in pharmacies in bad areas, I carried a ParaOrd P-14 and two extra mags (mostly just to balance the weight of the durn gun!) - I reminded coworkers that if they threw me in back of a car and hauled me to New Jersey, I'd get something like 6 years jail time and $42,000 in fines just for having such a thing, yet where I was it was entirely legal. They'd be amazed that the laws are so varied, nonsensical, and penalties so severe.

Thanks for reminding us we need to be more vigilant, and good luck dealing with your apparently idiotic government.

If you take a notion to come to the U.S. I'm sure you'll find likeminded friends here.

Thanks. I'm a guest here where I live. And thank God I DO get up to the US every now and then. And at least I DO have the privilege of having a sixgun down here. And even have a carry permit (except when they're suspended for some stupid whim) So although I was grousing a bit - it could be worse... :) :D

as is pointed out by ajmd, i'm truly amazed by the number and differences in laws around the country.

i happen to live in california. i cannot agree with nor support the logic, reasoning and passing of most firearms laws here. i DO understand what they wish to achieve, though. as an example, is some poor sould MORE dead if shot with a AK-47 than if with a ruger single-six revolver?

oddly enough, there are ways to "legally" have what the legislature refer to as "assault weapons" but yet they seem to totally miss/ignore the point that these so-called "assault weapons", now being designed, produced and accepted by MANY companies, are also legimate sporting rifles...such as the stag arms Model 6. it must be imported into the state to a licensed FFL without the magazine release catch assembly. it is considered then, as not having a "detachable magazine" so the dreaded pistol grip feature is then legal. that's just one example i can cite. but then, the owner may have a, God forbid, 20 or even worse yet, a 30 round magazine(s) and use them to shoot with!

what is important is HOW anyone uses ANY firearm...it's not WHAT is used, it's HOW it's used...THAT point seems to evade most legislators. somehow, some way, sometime ago, many legislators got the idea that a pistol grip with a detachable magazine some how gives the rifle some sort of supernatural, EVIL power(s)

why is it that an AR in the hands of LEO is ALWAYS viewed as "cool", or "right", or "OK"... but... in the hands of us average every-day civilians, it's an instrument of evil?

enuff venting for now...i need my morning caffiene dosage... :)
