A change in wind direction could put that fire right on top of them very quickly. Frankly, having fought fire, I'd be pretty worried and HUNKERING myself!

A similar thought crossed my mind a while back about some forest fire photos I came across.

The thought crosses a fuel transport drivers mind once in awhile, the prospect of becoming a "crispy critter" in a big wreck and fire with a full load of gasoline. But forest fires can and do overtake firefighters at times, and the resulting holocost is un-imaginable. The heat from fir and pine when it gets red hot and wind pushing it is dreadful to say the least.

I have to give the people who fight forest fires credit for having more guts than I do. I don't want to do that. I fought a couple of brush fires in the Army that we started with tear gas, and chopping a tree limb to use to beat out a brush fire is enough to make you wonder what you did with your mind.

+1. Years ago, I was fighting a fire at Ft. Hood that was started with a .50 on an old impact range. My company got every loader and driver(all the lowest ranking members) and put them on a Duce with them rubber paddles. At the time we were in a drought so when we got to the fire, we jumped out and started doing our thing. After 15 minutes, the fire spread and cut off our escape which was interesting to say the least. Everybody got back on the duce and he drove through the flames and we all made it out ok but I was wondering why I was there in the first place. That fire burned for days.

I recall like it was yesterday one of 2 spankings I ever got from my Dad and it was for playing with fire. The fires in the pics on this thread are those that I'm not familiar with. Hell indeed.....

The other instance was for stealing, very bad. The kicker was lying about it to my Mom and Dad, hence the behind tanning I was always a pretty good kid, I tried very hard to follow my Dad's example. It's a bonus that my Dad only punished when it was for a punishable infraction. He'd been around the block and seen what was good and bad. I miss him greatly.
