Range time with a couple .22s

Post by 2ndovc »

Made it out to the range this morning with my 39a and my new CZ-452/ 22mag.

I only had two different brands of .22 mag with me and quite a difference between the two.

I started with the 45Gr. Winchester Dynapoint. Set the nifty tangent rear sight at 50 yds and the first shot
was just a little right at 2 o'clock. Then proceeded to shoot several nice little groups off my range bag that averaged
right around an inch.
Next up was the Remington Premier 33 gr. Accutip.
This was a suprise. I was expecting even smaller groups but found the exact opposite. Group size
ran up to 5"+. Guess it likes the heavier bullets better. Glad I started with the Winchesters.
Really a nice little rifle.

Did some offhand practice with the 39a. when a couple guys showed up and planted themselves right next to me
with some big old stainless magna whatsit and started blasting away. Half a box later they still hadn't hit the paper.

Oh well. Was time to go anyway.

Cool beans. I would like to get a 22mag some time, just don't know what(besides the 9422M) it would be.

CZ makes the finest bolt action rimfires, for the money, today. I currently have two 452's, a LUX and an American, both 22lr. I had a 22mag American and once I cleaned out the barrel channel it shot 1" or better, 5-shot groups, at 100yds, 50% of the time or better. You'll find most 452's have the stock touching the right side of the barrel. It really doesn't matter on a 22LR, but a 22mag will heat the barrel up and push against the stock....changing harmonics. The only ammo it group well with was Winchester Supremes.

Great to see you brought the 39A along.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

I've always wanted a 9422M too but haven't been able to connect with one for the right price/condition with $$ in my pocket. :D
I'm really pleased with this little CZ though.. I know it's one of those dreaded "Bolt guns" but I really like it. The Gander Mtn. where
I pcked this one up also had one with a heavy barrel in 17mach 2. Been trying to talk myself out of going back for that one too. :D
