Nice, but such a long action would to my eye look better with a longer barrel. I really like the appearance of lever guns with these short magazines. I have a picture of an original with a similar magazine and 28" or so barrel, in .50 -- lovely.

That is a far more practical rifle. That is exactly what I am doing to mine except that I will make it a half round, half oct. I "carry" my rifles (and not in the back of a SUV or mini-van). The long barrel guns are a clunk to carry any distance. Someone posted a pic of one they had converted just as I intend to, a few months back.

That is close to what would be about ideal, just make the barrel half-round and put a shotgun butt on it. Of course it should be .45-75 or .50-95... :wink: Neat!
