Actually .. the movie tonight is the 1970 version starring Lee Marvin .. I personally like it better than Selleck's version and his is great! The bucking scene through the town in Marvin's movie is just excellent.

I watched it - thanks for the heads up. Good movie. The two are very close and I like me both. Lee Marvin is a favorite actor too.

Yep ...your right....and I was pleasantly surprised!
I just assumed it was Sellecks movie...
This was a great movie...Story lines were very similar..including dialog...
However I like the opening seen in Sellecks movie better...
"paint the door bit" and the ending was better too!
more levers in Sellecks movie too!
A must see!
LEE MARVIN is one hell of an actor...

I have Selleck's version of it and like it. But I saw Lee Marvin's when it came out 38 years ago and have always liked it.

If you have never read the book MONTE WALSH you seriously need to. Everything in both versions is in the book plus about 25 years more of stuff. The book starts with him as a teenager and covers his whole life.

If you can finish it with dry eyes I will be surprised.

I was disappointed the first time I watched Selleck's version. It was much better the second time around. I'll have to check out Lee Marvin's original, I always really liked him.

I was surfing the TV last night and caught like the last 15 minutes of the movie. I didn't watch it as I haven't seen it before. I do like Selleck's version though. The end of an era.

I have Tom Sellacks version on DVD.

I don't have cable TV so I couldn't watch Lee Marvins version, and I haven't found one to buy yet.

I will someday.
