OT- from VA

Post by Rustolium »

I keep seeing folks on here from Virginia. I'm curious where folks are from. Myself, I'm from a county called Louisa.

It's not often I hear of people that even know where Louisa is! It's too bad I'm stationed in ID and curently deployed to Guam. One of the guys that is also deployed here is from VA Beach as well and like most folks has never heard of Louisa. I went to elementary school about 5-7 miles from Gordonsville. It's a small world.

Louisa County, VA; interesting.

Not in relation to anything else here, but I just read today in one of our local daily newspapers that B.H. Obama's great-great-great-great-great grandfather, Nathaniel Bunch, was born in Louisa County, VA in 1793 before migrating in the 1840's to Newton County, AR by way of Overton, TN. He died in 1859 and is buried in the Dinsmore, AR cemetary. It is in this region that Obama's kin helped settle the Ozark's. There are many of Obama's 4th and 5th cousins living in the area. Reported in the July 30, 2008 issue of the Arkansas-Democrat Gazette, "In the mountain communities where Obama's cousins live, the news is a running joke for some. And others are other even bothered."

"... one of Obama's many twice removed fourth cousins", Golda Skaggs, 88 said, 'I probably can't say anything. Well, anyway, we joked about it so much'."

"Skaggs, like most residents of her predominately white and Democrat county, did not support Obama's primary bid. Family ties or no, she will not be supporting his general-election campaign, either."

Wonder what the patriarch, Ol' Nathaniel, would have thought about this as he was moving across the country to establish a permanent place for his family. And, if so, what he would have could have concluded about such an occurance.

Just read my reply above. Somewhat incoherent. Sorry for my poor self-editing.

I married a lovely lady that was born and raised in Louisa. Spending alternate holidays there is truly a pleasure with her family. I just wish that you could deer hunt there with centerfire rifles...buckshot only is not very fun to me.

Whenever I carry that muzzleloader out in the field its as if the deer know it and and hide. Maybe a "stealth" muzzleloader would work...
