Puke indeed, interesting that the $100.00/$10.00 came in the form of a credit card (Mastercard) rather than a check/other. A nice little percentage for Mastercard.

Re: Politics - Puke alert - BLUtube vid on Chicago gun buyback

A set of parents who had lost a child said, "they want to join together to make a difference".
I feel for their loss, but if they real want to "make a difference", try raising their child away from this environment. Try not letting their children hang out with thugs. And support severe punishment of those who commit violent crimes. The latter would do more to end violence than anything else - especially these goofy buy-back programs.
That being said, I think we should host our own "lever buy-back" program. No questions asked. We'll give $100 for every good condition, working lever that is brought in. We need to "save the levers"!!!

More ineffective, feel-good nonsense.
Fools the community into feeling good, so they'll vote for the same lying thieves next time around.
Pathetically transparent, yet shows how many are blind.

Sounds like a good way for my dad to get back $100 for that thing Jennings 9mm he bought .
Re: Politics - Puke alert - BLUtube vid on Chicago gun buyback
I like it! Heck, given some of those pistols I saw, why not extend it to all "qualified" guns, and resell them on Gunbroker. Anything in the laws that would prevent us from buying them? Would we now become "dealers", and so face some regulations that prevent us from doing it (on second thought, I guess there's a risk of trafficing in stolen guns -- bad jujus)?Ysabel Kid wrote:That being said, I think we should host our own "lever buy-back" program. I keep wishing they would have one of those around here......there has got to be a way to make money off these things..........I could maybe go to the junkyard and find a hundred or so replicas, go sell them for $10 dollars a piece and go and buy a couple of nice levers.

Re: Politics - Puke alert - BLUtube vid on Chicago gun buyback
What is absolutely astounding to me is that no one, not even on a LEO site, brings up the single most damning flaw in these "no questions asked" gun turn ins...
They are essentially Government/Police Sponsored destruction of evidence/impeding an investigation and general obstruction of justice Criminal Protection and Payoff programs.
Think about it.
No questions asked. At all. By Law. Doing so violates the 5th amendment.
SO Vinny the Hitman or Homey the Punk whack somebody, leave shell casings and ballistically identifiable evidence all over the place, then cooly walk into a gun turn in, drop the murder weapon on the counter and walk away with Cash.
There is now no weapon to tie them to the crime. They walk - and get paid by the City to walk. These actions would be CRIMINAL if done by anyone but the Government.
These programs not only disarm the clueless but keep the most dangerously violent ON the street, with cash... and the incentive to steal more guns.

More on the general Ilegality of paid gun turn-ins...
How many of those guns were stolen? Receipt of Stolen Property (Fencing) is a crime - likely a Federal Felony if it involves Firearms.
This kind of gun buy-up also a conspiracy to induce and conduct the illegal transportation and purchases of firearms - which directly contravenes Illinois state law [not that Emperor Daley has ever been one to abide by the law, e.g. his midnight bulldozer tactics].
Illinois law requires that anyone in possession of - let alone transporting, firearms have a valid FOID {firearms owners identification card}. Richie Daley, the last time I checked anyway, is NOT the dictator of the facist state of Chicago, regardless of what he thinks. In other words, he is not the executive, legislature and judiciary. He can NOT set aside laws - as he sees fit, nor can he use public funds in the furtherance of his conspiracies to violate state and county laws (no matter how stupid I find those laws...).
What's more, he's likely violated federal interstate racketeering laws if ANY firearms surrendered {and bought} under this sham were transported across state lines [like from Indiana].
Clearly the State of Illinois Attorney General's Office is NOT doing their job there. Neither is the Fed, as the ATF and FBI should be all over Richie over this...sham and overt conspiracy to violate countless state, county, city and/or federal laws.
To reiterate we have: Obstruction of Justice, Tampering with/destruction of evidence, Receipt of Stolen Property, Racketeering, and Conspiracy to commit (especially if ANY firearms sold to the non FFL holding City of Chicago came from IN or WI...)
Gotta love Chicago.

We have had gun turn ins over here but no body gets paid and priceless antiques get trashed or end up the property of some lucky gun savvy copper!
I like YK's suggestion that we hold our own "levergun buy back" and sell anything useful to members only.

Re: Politics - Puke alert - BLUtube vid on Chicago gun buyback
Several years ago they had a buyback in liberal Charlottesville, VA. The C'ville city cops who were off-duty worked the line for some excellent buys just over the $50 the buy-back was offering. Completely legal, even I could have done it. I don't blame them a bit. The cops ON-duty at the business point of the line had to be there. There was a lot of junk but also some very nice guns including a Swiss 7.65 Luger with all accessories. I saw that one.

Unbelievable how politicians can spout this stuff.
All of the good stuff will go home in somebody's pocket.
MasterCard, as someone else pointed out, will make a killing, too.
The taxpayers, as always, will get screwed.
And the crime rate will remain largely the same...............

Foundry fees won't be as high as expected, after all the 'nice' guns accidentally get lost and go home with some of the 'officials' involved.Tycer wrote:6600 guns x $100.00 x 103%(credit fee) + admin fees + foundry fees + + + +
