Leverless for 6 months-Update

Post by perry owens »

Had a visit from my local police firearms officer today-a charming, efficient and knowledgable young policewoman. She told me that my application for a firearm certificate was proceeding with everything I had requested. This included a Shiloh Sharps, two Winchester 1886s, two 1873s, an 1897, an 1892, a Stoeger coach gun, a Baker rifle and two Ruger Old Armys. She also said I could add all my antique rifles later if I wanted.
Our possessions arrived from the USA by sea last week so I am busy setting up all my reloading gear and casting bullets like mad. The wife keeps on at me to unpack some of the 36 boxes of personal possessions that arrived in the shipment so I compromised by unpacking all my CAS outfits and leather gear. That kept her off my case for a while but how do you deal witha situation where your honeydo list is longe than your wannado list?

Glad to hear your settling in and getting your gun operation squared away. A man has to have his priorities!

I'm glad your belongings are arriving or have arrived safely. What sort of armoring up of the home place is necessary for your security over there?
Sincerely,

Hobie

Glad to hear your FAC is proceeding alright. My local firearms dept have excelled lately too!
We have had a change of Chief Constable, the last one was anti gun ownership. I don't know if the new one is any better but the paperwork is clearing faster.

Perry Owens,

Glad all is going well. The way to deal with that honeydo list that is longer than your wannado list is add more things to your wannado list, then the scale tips in your favor!!!! :D

Hobie,
The law requires, but does not define "secure storage", so each police force drafts its own guidlines. As a general rule firearms have to be stored in locked steel cabinets manufactured to a British Standard. These are secured to the fabric of the building in a position where they are not easily seen by an opportunist thief, such as in an attic, cellar or closet. Ammunition usually has to be stored in a separate cabinet If you have a number of guns most forces will require you to have your house alarmed. In todays climate of crime alarming the house is something most Brits do as a matter of course. A cynic might think that the regulations are not so much about preventing theft of guns but more about restricting the gun owners ready access to the means of self defense in the event of a home invasion.

I've been wondering how the trip went and the shipping of arms. Right after you left a fair number of old single shot's showed up for sale at Bensons, and I was afraid maybe you'd had to dump a lot of things before you left.

All in all, not much different from what we do anyway, but it does rankle me to think of any government entity TELLING you you have to do it!

We're blessed (for now) over here - in my state, the only thing you have to get any sort of "permission" to buy is a fully-automatic machine-gun. I've never bought one, but an FFL who sells them told me there are around 22,000 in my state alone (population about 6 million). No wonder the terrorists are having to kill us off with poison and politics, rather than a normal 'invasion.'

Not just the cynics...

Glad the move is progressing well. My dream is to someday have the wanna-do list equal the honey-do list as well!!!
