OT - "Lethal Weapon" series, et al.
This has irritated me for years. Because of it, I do not patronize motion pictures with Mel Gibson (acting) or Richard Donner (directing). In several backgrounds of scenes occurring in the protagonists' police station -- I think the first "Lethal Weapon" did not have this, but I'm not sure -- you will see on message boards, bulletin boards, sometimes on the walls posters symbolizing NO NRA and NO HANDGUNS, and perhaps other similarly offensive signage.
I have ruled out the possibility that Gibson and Donner have/had no knowledge of these signages' presence. I further believe, without a shred of evidence, that these things were deliberately inserted in co-operation with one or more anti-Second Amendment organizations. If nothing else is true, the continuity [director] was aware of them; that's part of the job.

We should all be boycotting Hollywood in general. As always, it's rotting American societal values.

A little more extreme than I care to be. What offends me about this repetitive bitch-slap is that the series is based upon senseless violence and killing, replete with explosions and gratuitous gunfights. It appears as though those in and of the series are saying in effect that since all that stands between humanity and what is being portrayed via the series is the NRA, that this bulwark must be erased. And while we're at it, we'll make a fortune off the chumps.homefront wrote:We should all be boycotting Hollywood in general. As always, it's rotting American societal values.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but have you considered this.
The signs appeared in a Los Angeles Police Department Squad Room. Perhaps, the set was dressed to accurately reflect some of the signage in an actual LAPD Squad Room.
I have yet to see the first police department festooned with signs saying concealed carry by citizens permitted. In fact they generally have signs saying that concealed carry is forbidden on the premises.
The same sort of signs were prominently displayed in the TV series NYPD Blue. And I know that Dennis Franz and a couple of other regulars on the cast are NRA Members and staunch supporters of the Second Amendment.
Like I said, I'm not saying you are wrong, just offering a couple of things to consider.
Also consider this. If we limited our movie viewing to those made by NRA Members and Second Amendment supporters, we'd pretty well limit ourselves to old John Wayn movies, and Tom Selleck movies. Clint Eastwood btw IS NOT A SECOND AMENDMENT OR NRA SUPPORTER.

In the universe of specious rationale, this is among the most egregious. This series makes zero pretense of approaching reality. It is intended to be entertainment. I think we agree on this. And as such, did someone in charge of creative or production -- anyone -- make a decision that having said signage in background furthered entertainment values?Doc Hudson wrote:I'm not saying you are wrong, but have you considered this.

Let's not dilute my venting of spleen by including a hoard of equally unsavory allusions in "entertainment."

I don't know anything about the signage, but, I do agree with you on the concept of making millions on violent movies and admonishing it at the same time. I think it was Sean Penn that Micheal Savage talks about in one of his books in where he does just that: makes tons of money playing tough, violent types and then speaks against it in his personal life. Straight up hypocrisy at it's most purest.

I can't recall - I think it was the third one in the installment - that was based in whole on an anti-gun message. I must admit I liked the first two - plenty of action, and I just like "cop-buddy" movies.
Also, I like Mel Gibson's work in general. "Braveheart", "The Patriot" and of course, "The Passion" we all excellent films. The latter took a lot of guts - and faith - to make.
My understanding is that Gibson, for all of his faults, is a devoted husband, father and Catholic Christian. I've read he insists on knowing where the churches are whenever he films on site, and prefers mass in Latin. Again, risky considering his line of work - but he has reached a point of fame and wealth that he no longer needs the approval of his "peers".
In general though, Hollywood hates us and everything we stand for. I do limit a lot of movies going because of this...

Hollywood? Could there be a "falser" place. Everybody there gets rich playing people they aren't. The better you are at it the more you make.

I pretty much do limit myself to older movies and TV shows, for 3 main reasons:Doc Hudson wrote:Also consider this. Most new movies really suck, especially action movies, which are so ridiculously over-the-top, and both movies and TV are vulgar and disgusting;
Most of the time, while watching TV or a movie, I feel like I am being clubbed over the head with leftist propaganda;
Most entertainers today are far-left nutjobs whom I don't want to receive a cent of my money if I can avoid it. Since there are too many to keep track of anymore, I just boycott them all.

Next time you post a rant, why not do everyone a service and state that you desire no feedback other than abject agreement and that rational thought is neither used in the rant nor desired in comments.Naphtali wrote:In the universe of specious rationale, this is among the most egregious. You can rant all you please. You can insult me as much as you please. You can be as irrational as you please. That does not change facts. There is no such thing a pro-gun police departments in any large cities. There is plenty of anti-Second Amendment signage in nearly all police departments.
I will do my best not to intrude my egregious opinions on your viewpoint again. BTW, if you don't do something about that spleen, it will give you a crappy outlook on life. Then again perhaps you are too late to do anything.
