OT - Shooting Ranges: Here's an Idea...

Post by Old Ironsights »

"We now know from the experience of the past thirty years that "an armed society is a polite society". Violent crime is much more effectively suppressed by those who would otherwise be its victims, than by hordes of government lackeys whose first thought is for their pensions. We also know—thanks to people like the Vietnamese and the Afghans—that a civil population in possession of small arms is more than a match for any huge government equipped with high-tech, high-capital weaponry.

On that account, among many other badly-needed reforms, we must replace at least half of the publically-funded golf courses in this country with shooting ranges, and draft legislation so that any time another golf course or some other sports facility is being planned or contemplated, a shooting range of equal value must be constructed, as well. Ideally, government shouldn't do this sort of thing at all, and laws like the one I've just suggested would most likely help put an end to it. "

I'd vote for that! 8)

In Britain before the First World War, rifle ranges were every where so that young men could learn to be Marksmen for King and Country. They close them down now because they're noisy and not PC

Me and my dad were discussing this just yesterday. When he was a kid, every town in America had a public shooting range. Most dissappeared or are used for LEO only. He has been reading a book called, "We Were Soldiers" and it talkes about how accurate our enemys are. I pointed out that part of the problem lies with the fact that many of our soldiers never even handled a firearm before they went into the military and when I was in, were given 40 rounds to shoot at targets so they could qualify. No familiarization(extra rounds just to waste) were given.

Now just suppose that the United States still had public shooting ranges in every town. This would alleviate much of the scared/panic that many soldiers get when faced with combat. Collateral damage would be diminished and lives might might be saved.

Just a thought.

That's what the NRA was originally supposed to be about... as well as the CMP - preparing/keeping the Civilian up to speed on the use of Military Arms.

Wouldn't it be great to e able to buy an M16 from CMP...?

Heck, around here there's already multiple public shooting ranges - about one every square mile, or so.

There's no charge for shooting, free refreshments (like soda & potato chips) are at hand, as are other reactive targets like milk bottles, and cartons of eggs.

They seem to be in frequent use by beginners. too - You know, the ones who hold their pistols horizontally. ;)

I like the sound of that. I only wish I had the space to build one here. Or for that matter, the money. :?
