OT - the kid's in Houston 'bout now...

Post by AmBraCol »

We drove to the Cali airport last night, grabbed a room in the hotel right there and got up nice and early to get the kid checked in and all. As soon as he made it into immigration we packed up and headed out. Less than a full week here (by about 18 hours) but we packed a lot into that time. He kept us in stitches over his various boot camp experiences. His mom learned things she had NO clue about and I got to vicariously experience boot camp. His friends all came 'round off and on and in all he had a great time. It was hard to pack him off again so soon, but you know what? I like what the USMC has done with him. He's the same kid we put years of love and effort into raising, only polished in areas it's hard for a dad to reach. They say "Boot camp is 90% mental" and that's what Tim went in believing - and came out believing too. We're proud of him and look forward to hearing how MCT goes. Then along about the middle of August or so he'll be heading to the other coast to Camp Lejeune (sp?) or Cherry Point (?) for his MOS school. It'll probably be February or March before he gets posted somewhere. His dream's to get stationed in Kalifornia and work on his degree, but he knows it's up to the USMC where they'll send him. Wherever that ends up being I know he'll do a great job.

Anyway, many, MANY thanks to all y'all who are keeping this young leatherneck in your prayers. He and his buddies can use all the prayer backing they can get, not to mention those who are serving in other branches of our military.

Thanks, folks.

Thanks, Grizz.

Speakin' of "their entire generation"...

the kid left me a copy of "Battle Cry For My Generation" by Ron Luce with Mike Guzzardo. I've not had a chance to read it, but he recommends it as a great look at "what makes kids tick these days"...

Surely you've got a picture of him in uniform you can post. Always nice to see a brand new, shining, squeaky clean, Marine in uniform.

Best of luck to him in his new endeavors.
