OT - What i did today

Post by bsaride »

I have a 1946 Iver Johnson Supershot Sealed Eight, 8 rnd top break revolver
that I bought a holster for off eBay about a month ago. My leather friends said
I could just dye it to make it black as advertised (came dark brown). I dyed it
without any conditioning (they said it would be fine) and ruined a $50 full flap
holster made by Iver Johnson in the 40s. Since I have played with leather in the
past and have most of the tools and some cowhide layin around I went at it.
I used directions from a book that says you can do this without water (no casing)
and no glue. Came out pretty good and very tight on the gun. It will go on a
cartridge belt with a Buck knife and hang from my hips when I carry my 1927
Marlin 39 (there ain't no A after that neither). Neice just got her license last
weekend and as soon as she proves herself with a 22 rifle I will have more pics.

Excellent job. I make my own holsters time to time, plus my own knife sheaths. That is a good looking holster. Ought to give you years of excellent service.

bsaride,

Very good work.

I have been looking for one of them top-break .22LRs for quite awhile. I cannot afford what the sellers want for them.

I see that its stiched. What kind of sewing machine did you use? I hear the leather ones are expensive.
That which does not kill me has made a grave tactical error.

Left hand, right hand, awl, two needles and some thread.
Clamped in stitching clamp (Tandy).

I used to have an industrial sewing machine I paid $550 used that I wasn't using
so got rid of it. I don't like sewing but this time i used the right tools and it was
alot easier.
