Model 65 218 and Win Trapper 357

Post by Old Savage »

I have and oportunity to buy these $800 and $400 respectively. The 65 has some dings in the stock but the metal is perfect and the Win has a not walnut stock and cross bolt safety but is as almost new. What do you fellows think and if I don't take them, no reason someone else can't.

The Model 65 would be cheap at twice the money, Fred - but I wouldn't buy the .357 at any more than $300-350, and then only if I really, really, really, really wanted a .357 AE.
For the same $$, I'd rather have a Rossi/Puma .357.

Appreciate it Pete. I will have to see about the 65 - Win didn't trip my trigger. I may be getting as in probably a Rossi 45 Trapper anyway.

OS...

Is the Model 65 a Browning or a Winchester? If it's a Browning check the closed auctions on GunBroker for comparables. I think it might be a $100 too high in the condition you describe. If the Model 65 is a Winchester, 2-3 times that price wouldn't surprise me!

Let us know.

If that is an original Winchester Model 65 (and not a Browning), then $800 is downright stealing it from the poor fellow. I bought my 65 at a large auction in Kansas by internet (Kull & Supica), so the winning bid is a good indication of what the actual market value is, and I can tell you that I paid a durn sight more than $800. I not only had to sell my 1892 32-20 to pay for it, I also had to sell one of my antique S&W sixguns too. If that is an original in decent shape and it hasn't been refinished or messed with, then I'd recommend you reach for your wallet so fast that your hand makes a sonic boom and you have to visit the chiropractor to get your arm back in its socket. :D If it is a Browning in excellent condition, then it is a good price in my books.

Browning fellows, the guy selling these knows what he is doing. Got together tonight and couldn't come up with a trade. Frankly I didn't care about the value - I seldom do - just that it is an interesting rifle. Don't have the cash I want to invest.

OS,
Would buy the Browning 65 but in Switzerland it is near impossible to get one. The Standard
Grade Browning 65 costs about $ 1'600.00 and the High Grade about $2'600.00.

I've got two of the Win94 357mag Trappers that are like new, and I sure wouldn't sell them for $400, maybe closer to $550-$600.

I can shoot groups of 1.5" and less at 100yds with both 357mag and 38spcl.

Mine have the tang safety, but still $400 for an almost new one in any configuration is a great deal. Plus you can sell the birch stock and with the money pick up some Walnut stocks.
...and I don't think he even knows it...Walks around with a half-assed grin...If he feels fear, he don't show it. Just rides into hell and back again.
