wife starting new organization
My wife informed me today---(after I mentioned that I purchased a new Cowboy Marlin in .45 Colt) that she was starting a new club. She calls it the "WOFBMGA". Stands for "Weaning Oneself From Buying More Guns Anonymous". According to her, all one needs to do to be cured, is attend a lot of meetings, and don't buy any guns between meetings. She asked me if I knew any potential new members she could contact. I couldn't think of even one. She'll get over it.

I once knew a Toy Shop owner that would give you two receipts, one with the real price of the gun and one to show the wife!
Whatever you do always give 100%........... unless you are donating blood.

I've convinced the wife that gun buys are a hedge against inflation..

I remind my sweet pea when the to many
gun discussion rears it’s ugly head.
Who would you sooner be married to:
1. A gambling addict?
2. An Alcoholic?
3. A drug addict?
4. Or a gun junkie?
“Usually” that ends the conversation with silence.

I do the same thing. I don't smoke, drink, play golf or do other things that take me away from the family much (other than work
GK - I love that "two receipts" idea!!! Not trying to be dishonest - because I would buy it one way or the other. Just trying to avoid picking a fight!!!

We don't get into spats anymore about guns. I just don't tell her about any new purchases.
Just squirrel away the cash over time and then there's no record of it either.

Re: wife starting new organization
The way the wife and I have it worked out now is that after the bills are paid and money is laid aside for savings, the remainder is divided by % of gross contribution to the family income. That's our "mad money" with no strings attached. I could spend it all on donuts if I wanted. Or levers...
Now, where's the toy store?

Re: wife starting new organization
It's that crucial time between the gun store and getting the gun into the gun safe that is the most dangerous. If I can get a new gun into my gun safe the wife will never know but tensions are always high until I can do so.
There may be light at the end of the tunnel for me though. Yesterday, I guess for lack of anything else to read while on the pot, the wife came out with my new Ruger Catalog and pointed to a picture of Ruger's new .380 LCP semi-automatic pistol and said she'd like to have one.
The gun-Gods must be smiling on me.

Re: wife starting new organization
I just did a little math and it looks like I have spent $35.55/month on gun purchases since we've been married. Now that's what I call a bargin. Heck, we give the phone company more than that!
Re: wife starting new organization
Don't let her get on this site, she may figure out how to contact my wife and then I would be in deep trouble

Re: wife starting new organization
That's why you always need to keep an old, beat-up gun case in your car or truck.
When you bring it in the house, even if it has that nice shiny new custom varmint gun with the 40-x scope, kind of drag it along behind you, drop it a bit, or spill some coffee on it, like it's just your old shotgun from back on the farm.
Of course you still have to get rid of the box before she finds it, which adds the benefit of not being able to sell it "NIB" later on, so you just HAVE to go ahead and shoot your new toy, and bond with it.

She might not get over it, but you will!
BTW, tell her that this is the only addiction known to be contagious even across state lines and that relapse is certain if anyone in any adjoining state is still afflicted. So you, my friend, are out of luck as I won't take the cure (and I'm not the only one over here in VA with the monkey on my back).

Re: wife starting new organization
I had a nice long talk with her today about this business of starting up a new 12 step program. She decided that this addiction is not life threatning, nor bad for ones health. So for now she says she's cool with all these guns, and she even liked many of you guys replies, sort of calmed her down to know there are other gun wives out there who cope ok. Thanks guys, all this helped a lot.

I'll bet she liked the part, about the concurrent jewelry deliveries.

Re: wife starting new organization
I got really lucky, married one that doesn’t mind. After one of the guys I put in prison came to the house, when he got out, she decided she needed one too and goes shooting with me every now and then.

Re: wife starting new organization
it use to be a topic of conversation and she would stew over the growing collection. she approached me once or twice on it and I tried the polite discussion route of the I don't go drinking, whoring, doping, etc., then I mentioned that all the bills were paid (even her car, insurance, and credit cards), then I mentioned the I make it, I can spend it, I even mentioned that the jewelry chest looked pretty full last time I looked. When we had times of financial crisis, the firearms were there to bail us out through weeding out and selling them. Through all of this, her jewlery levels did not drop. She even once said we would not have the financial dips if I didn't buy firearms. That was the last time we discussed it! After that was over, and all the 'splaining was done, she came around to my way of thinking. Now that I will be on my own, I don't have to worry about 'splaining to anyone.
