Hey guys, newbie with a question.

Post by Stompy »

Just wanted to drop a line and say hey to all you out there.
I just picked up a really nice Winchester 94 circa 1970 and its in really nice shape, but the previous owner drilled and tapped it for a scope. Second issue, the rear sight was also missing and had a 3/8 dovetail blank in its place. I happened to have 4 screws that filled the holes from the scope mount nicely. Now to the crux of my issue, I have a nice gun with no rear sight. I want to put a peep sight on the gun but I do not know which one will use the holes that are already in the gun.

Image

You can obviously see the 4 holes for the scope mount along the top of the receiver, however what peep sight would use the 2 smaller holes to the lower right and left of the right most scope base hole? I do not know if these are factory holes or if the last owner of this gun added them. Any insight would help. Also I really do not want to put any more holes in this poor gun either. Thanks in advance for any help.

A Lyman 66A should fit those holes I marked in the above picture. Here is a link to Lyman's website http://www.lymanproducts.com/lymanproducts/index.htm.The Williams FP 94/36 TK sight will also fit. Here is link to William's webpagehttp://www.williamsgunsight.com/gunsights/FPpage.htm.Given a choice I prefer the Lyman hands down- more traditional and steel.Shop around online for better prices.I hope this helps and welcome aboard!

Stompy,

Welcome to the forum.

As the guys above said either a Lyman 66A or Williams FP 94/36 will fit those holes. Either sight will provide excellent service. I have used, and do use them both.

I thought the Lymans were all aluminum now? For example, I have a 56 on a Winchester 71 that is steel. When they moved to the 66, I thought they moved the line to aluminum. Does Lyman still make some of these side-mount receiver sights in steel?

Check this link from MidwayUSA.

http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.e ... mid=198988

The sight will fit your Winchester.

EDIT: It will use the two holes "Jaguarundi " arrowed in his post.

Thanks a lot for the helpful replies, I just wasn't sure if those holes were factory or an after thought.
Thanks again, you guys are great.

:P Well... sorta both... they are factory, and after some thought, Winchester started to include some 58 years after production began! :D :D

You have correctly identified the holes for the receiver sight, The Lyman, Williams and Redfield receiver sights will screw right in and you will be good to go.

Welcome Stompy! I bought a couple of the Williams FP sights, and installed them with no problems. I ordered them from Midway, and I like them very much. I am sure the Lyman's are very good also.

Stompy,

Welcome!

It looks like this rifle also has those extra holes:

Are the 4 extras for a Redfield scope mount?

I'm curious because that's what's on my 94 and my Sears 54 has them as well. I haven't measured between them to see if the spacing is the same or not.
If these walls could talk, I'd listen to the floor.
