Win 1892

Today I saw a Winchester mod 1892, .32 W.C.F. It has a 24" octagon barrel, full length mag, half moon butt plate, unmarred screws and very fine blueing.

How efficient is the cartridge, and what could a fair price be? Any other comments?

I think it's a fine cartridge, excellent 100yd varmiter if yer eyesight & stalkin' skills are up to the challenge.

If original finish and a bright, unpitted bore, that's a >$1100 rifle, probably more nowadays. I bought one about 15 years ago with an excellent bore, but only a brown patina for $700 and foolishly sold it off.

if you can get the serial number, you can check the date it was made and that will help with the price. I have one made in 1917, I bought it in 1954 from an uncle it is a 24 inch round barrel and is my favorite rifle and round. The 32-20 has taken alot of deer over here with close shots. The round is an excellent small game and varmit round like Griff said out to 100 yards or so. A very good round for fox and cat size game. I am not sure what you have over there in that size range but it a fine round and a good one to reload for. Game keeper in England is looking for one also.

The .32-20 is an outstanding round and probably my all time favorite. I've knocked off a pile of critters with it and have more leverguns chambered in the the 32WCF that any other cartridge.
Fairly quiet, almost no recoil.
Here's my favorite. Made in 1917. I bought it at an auction while I was still in college.


Can't go wrong with a 92/ 32WCF. Not that I'd part with this one but I figure it would go 11-1200 US at auction now. Aside from the carry wear on the receiver it's almost perfect.

It has ser n:r 84793X, and as far as I had found, it should be made in 1917, the same year as your one. (BTW, my Win 1912 16ga is also made in that year.)

Thats right I reckon that was a good year for the 1892 32wcf. If you get it I know you will really enjoy shooting and loading for it.

The 32 WCF (32-20) is one of my favourite cartridges. I use it for small game. Regarding your rifle, you said there was a lot of blue on it. If you meant the receiver, then that is a pretty high condition gun. I doubt I could get one like that here in Canada for less than $1,800. Of course, this assumes that the gun has never been refinished and still has nice wood. There are only a few cartridges that I would never want to be without and the 32 WCF (32-20) is one of them. With the original Winchester high velocity load, it is good for medium sized game such as small deer. It is also a wonderful cartridge to start off a young shooter. It has almost no recoil and is very enjoyable to shoot.

It's certainly one of my favorites. I have several rifle and pistols in 32WCF. I never could locate a decent carbine though so I took one of the Rossi 357's and converted it. That's it in my Avatar.
