Any ideas on current Marlin 1894 Cowboy 44-40 prices?

Post by JB »

My dad has the chance to pick up a new in the box 1894 44-40. I've scanned the auction sites for him, but can't find any recent sales on these. Any ideas what these are currently bringing?

I have only seen one for sale and that was a couple years ago. Seems that the .44-40 is a rare caliber for modern Marlins. :D

I picked up a minty one just recently for $375.00 but I legally "stole" that rifle. In other words I was fortunate to find that rifle at that price. I would say $675.00 is not out of the question. These rifles are quickly approaching the CB .38-55 range. The .44-40 is highly regarded. Nostalgia seems to play a big role in these matters. 1886.

There's a minty one on the rake at my local shop. Marked at $780. Don't see them much.

I've seen a few of the regular 44-40's, just not the Cowboy model.

Anything more than $650 you should save some more money and buy a Winchester 1892, if you can find one. The 44-40 is a very fun round capable of doing alot of things.

I'm also sure Marlin wouldn't mind converting one for you either. I think it would be close to $300 or so.

They might need a 1894 type lever receiver, but for about $150-200 those are pretty cheap.

So a $450-550 is probably what one could easily be done for.

He has other 44-40's for shooting. He just wanted this one for his collection. He ended up getting it today for $600.00 out the door. It's new in the box and unfired and will stay that way!

I paid $650 for one on Gunbroker about 2 years ago and mine was still unsealed in the box , but it isn't that way any longer !

Now almost a year ago I got a 1894CCL in 44-40 . This one was about 98% and no box . I paid $650 for this one as well ! The only difference between them is that the CCL is uncheckered and has a 20" barrel.
