What caliber and what is it?

Post by jdad »

I grabbed this in a box of stuff, at an estate sale. It's a copper case, with a hard lead or pot metal bullet, and a concave base. It looks like a vintage practice round or snap cap.

OAL = 1.247"

Bullet Dia. = .335"

Case Dia. = .445"

Any ideas?

The case shape reminds me of the .30 Mauser, .30 Luger or 7.62x25 but I don't think the dimensions match...
If these walls could talk, I'd listen to the floor.

Looks like a home-made snap-cap to me. No rim of any kind, and no markings. Doesn't match anything I found in "Cartridges of the World"...Image

I think it's on old dummy round from a cap gun/gunbelt set.
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." -Theodore Roosevelt-

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?

That makes some pretty logical sense. I should have figured that, with all the old toys laying around.
