Browning 1895 Stays In The Family

Post by salvo »

Just picked up my new to me Browning 1895 in .30-06.
I got it from 45704me here in the classifieds, another levergun stays in the family :D
45704me was just the best guy to deal with, he even got my Swedish Mauser M96 out of the deal for his brother to have, I wish my brothers were that nice!
This site of Paco's has the best people in the world, bar none.

Here's a few pictures I just took, you guys are probably sick of my bar top, no toes at least.

Thanks guy's.
I regrettably sold my Winchester Model 70 in .30-06 to one of my best friends about three years ago and have been looking for a .30-06 ever since, naturally the replacement had to be a lever!
I'm really looking forward to test a few loads in it. My only problem is I need to buy some brass, guess I better post a WTB in the classifieds. This is a bad addiction.

Pete44ru, that looks like just the ticket. What model XS sight is that and did you change out the front sight?
I was thinking about a Lyman but would prefer to D&T the bolt.

At one time I wished my 95 was an '06, but my 30-40 shoots incredibly so it's definately found a home. So, why not just add a 95 30-06, why not?

That is a beautiful rifle.

Congrats! Very nice - and I like the bar top. :)

If you are looking to put a peep on it, Buffalo Arms has a traditional side-mount Lyman type. It works great and you can install youself if you can drill and tap - they supply the drill and tap with the sight. Here's a pic of it on my old 95:

Allows for a pretty wide range of adjustment and looks traditional.

Thanks for posting that O.S.O.K I remember seeing the post about that sight and tried to search for it last night with no luck.
It looks as though you only need to D&T one hole, is that right?

YK, I was thinking about getting a toe in just for you :)

The peep is the XS that fits the Marlin 1894, as I took it off my 1894P when I LeverScouted it.
The XS part number for the peepsight w/o a front ramp is: M L - 0002 - 5 - .

The hole spacing is the same as the standard Marlin top mount scope hole spacing.

The front sight blade also came from XS.
It's a taller blade than issue, with the XS vertical white strip down the sighting face.
It comes as an undrilled blade, which must be clamped in your rifle's ramp and drilled through, using the ramp as a drill guide with a 1/16" bit.
I saved my old sight pin, and re-used it.
The front sight stock number is: *1-W I - 0017 - 4 -

Yes, that is right - the rear hole must be d/t'd. They supply the directions and as mentioned, the drill and tap too. It's not cheap though... but it really is a quality sight. I really like it.

O.S.O.K. I think it may be worth it, it just fits the rifle like it should be there.

2ndovc, that ones a keeper, I have enjoyed the pictures of it now and then the past few years. I'm pretty sure your 95 planted the seed to get one.

After all, we do have an image to maintain!

Your shots of guns on that bar are getting me into trouble. I keep showing them to my wife - kind of like "I need one of these" - and she keeps replying "who cares about the guns, you need to get me a countertop like THAT!"
